John David Albert (1806 - 1899) was a mountain man born in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was orphaned around the age of seven, and lived with a sister in Pennsylvania.

After working on a Mississippi keel boat, Albert went west in 1834 with a group of hunters. Hew soon became part of the American Fur Company.

In 1847, he was one of the few to escape the "Taos uprising," a surprise attack by Mexicans and indians near Santa Fe.

He survived three wives and fathered about twenty children.

He died in Montana.
