Joe Mallett
Joe Mallett (8 January 1916 – February 2004) was an English professional footballer, coach, manager and scout.
Born in Gateshead, Northumberland, Mallett played as a wing half for Charlton Athletic, QPR, Southampton – for whom he made more than 200 appearances in the Football League – and Leyton Orient.
He went on to coach at Nottingham Forest before joining Birmingham City, first as coach, then as manager from July 1964 to December 1965, then as assistant manager under Stan Cullis. When Cullis left Birmingham in 1970 Mallett managed Panionios and coached at Apollon in the Greek Super League. From 1975 he coached under Gordon Bradley at New York Cosmos in the NASL, rejoined Bradley at the Washington Diplomats in 1978,[1] and later coached at San Jose Earthquakes. He also scouted for former club Southampton.
He died in February 2004 at the age of 88.[2]
