Egyptian Derby

Even though Al-Ahly and Al-Zamalek are in different cities -Ahly in Cairo and Zamalek in Giza- they both belong to the Greater Cairo District and thus the name "Cairo Derby" got stuck eventhough they belong to different but adjacent cities.

This is the highlight of the Egyptian Premier League, a match between Africa's most successful clubs, foreign refrees are brought to ensure neutrality, it's that serious.

Zamalek are the ones who hold the record for the biggest win over their rivals, as they thrashed Ahly in the 1943 Cup final 6-0, the closest Ahly got to even the score came in 16th May 2002 when Ahly won Zamalek 6-1 with Khaled Bibo scoring 4 goals setting a new record for most goals scored in one game by a player of either teams in the derby.

The current derby top goalscorer is Hossam Hassan who played for both sides, scoring 9 goals, 5 for Ahly and 4 for Zamalek.
