Alliant Energy
Alliant Energy Corporation (NYSE: LNT) is a public utility holding company that incorporated in Madison, Wisconsin in 1981. It is comprised of several subsidiaries: [1]
Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL) is a public utility that generates and distributes electricity, and purchases and distributes natural gas. The company incorporated in Iowa in 1925 as the Iowa Railway and Light Corporation. It expanded northward over the Iowa / Minnesota border and also developed a territory in northern Minnesota by the late 1930s. This latter, isolated territory was sold to Otter Tail Power Company in 1944 as a result of the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 1935.
Today, it provides electricity and gas to communities in Iowa, Illinois, and southern Minnesota. [2]
Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL) provides similar services as IPL in Wisconsin.
Alliant Energy also provides several non-regulated services, including ground transportation and energy engineering (such as wind and geothermal energy).
