Killer whale FPC

Hello. A Featured Picture Candidate you commented on, Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Killer whale mother and calf, is now in the section for "Older nominations requiring additional input from voters." Contributors have tried to improve it after you commented, and your opinion is welcome as to which, if any, of the available versions deserves promotion. I am sending this message to everyone who participated in the FPC. Thanks! Kla'quot 06:26, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NPA and talk page vandalism

Hi Chris. I'm back from my wikibreak but I think that I'm about to go on a new due to more unpleasant events which make me dislike wikipedia. Do you think that what's been said here[1] is rational? Thanks. Miskin 13:55, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope I can upload a new version of your maps of Three_Kingdoms_of_Korea, the update will be a new border based on [2] and mark the area between the new border line and the old line with strpes of grey and blu, and mark the area as "disputed territory", and mark China into "Southern and Northern Dynasties (China)". please give me a reply if it is ok? thanks--Yeahsoo 03:25, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the Forced Redirect

You should probably remove the forced redirect on "Eric Dill." He is no longer with The Click Five and is pursuing a solo career. Various news articles talk about this, such as: http://www.chartattack.com/damn/2007/04/0504.cfm http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1558026/20070425/lil_kim.jhtml http://theedge.bostonherald.com/musicNews/view.bg?articleid=196306 -- John

No problem. Always happy if people improve my work -- Chris 73 | Talk 03:46, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just went a double checked, and I think the images your composite was made from were actually taken by Australians, not US navy. Since they're aussie, crown copyright applies, and it's non-free. We can probably make a case for fair use, but it's gonna have to come off the commons and should probably be delisted as an FPC. Night Gyr (talk/Oy) 02:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Forced Redirect - Please Remove for Eric Dill

Eric Dill is now the "former" lead singer of The Click Five, and therefore needs his own Wikipedia listing. This is not possible, however, because it is set on forced redirect. Can you please remove the forced redirect on this listing? -- John | 11:48, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale

Hi Chris, I've seen that you've uploaded the Image:ShipPamirFalklandIslandStamp.jpg under a fair use license. Could you please add a rationale for the license? As Wikipedia has several free images, I'm not sure what to base it on. Thanks, Ibn Battuta 17:36, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hoppla, gerade erst gemerkt, daß Du deutsch sprichst. Egal, antworte, wie Du magst. ^^ --Ibn Battuta 17:37, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Viele Grüße, Ibn Battuta 06:05, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you maybe have a larger version of that for commons?
If you have another one please tell me on my commons page
Thanks --D-Kuru 01:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see that there is another picture available on the english wikipedia which is bigger.
If you fell like you can upload it. If not, please tell me so that I can do it instead.
--D-Kuru 01:16, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The resolution of that image is still to small :-(
Do you have a version with a higher resolution for commons?

New WP:TOJO sockpuppet candidates

A number of odd, Tojo-like edits have been showing-up as parkinsonism again. While I've seen Tojoism in action before, this is the first time I've ever dealt with it directly. Would you mind giving me your opinion on the (all brief) edit histories of the following users and whether you agree with my suspicion that they're Tojo socks?

Thanks very much. -- MarcoTolo 19:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

deleted "Image:Film reel and film.jpg" (moved to commons) ... Sounds good, but I don't think you caught all the places it was linked from. Can you remind me of the proper code for it (I don't have my notes with me), and I'll try to take care of fixes on teh Film portal project? Thanks..... Capsule Hotel Image

Hello! Just wanted to let you know (as you requested be done) that I am planning to use the image CapsuleHotel.jpg in a school project of mine on Tokyo. I will add the tag that you supplied to my bibliography, with details on what image it is referring to. Have a nice day! Peace out.

Fair use rationale for Image:Salt Satyagraha.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Salt Satyagraha.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 22:06, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chris, do you know if the sides of a Mushiki are also made from bamboo? It looks more like some kind of bark; at any rate, the linear markings seem unlike any part of the bamboo plant that comes to mind. Unless it be the 'bark' of a very large bamboo, ironed flat ... ? And do you know what the Chinese equivalent of the mushiki is called? Thanks, Jayen466 17:50, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IHO did Not decide to only sea of japan use

  • about sea of japan/east sea edit.

the Ninth Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names elected to retain the title of the body of water as "Sea of Japan". <<?

actually, iho chief said,
"I encourage the three countries concerned to find a solution acceptable to all of them, taking into account any relevant solutions, or else to agree to differ and to report the outcome of these discussions to the next conference."
IHO did not decide to only 'sea of japan' naming use.
The IHO declined the name use both "East Sea" and "Sea of Japan". They did not decide to only sea of japan name use.
1. IHO cheif said, "these discussions to the next conference."
2. Previous IHO's map delete that only "sea of japan" name use.
3. The latest meeting of the International Hydrographic Organization ended without any changes, but South Korea is happy because the head of the organization suggested the moniker “Sea of Japan” be deleted from the world’s oceanographic maps until an agreement on the disputed name can be reached.[3]
4. so, IHO did not decide to exclusively "sea of japan" name use.
According to IHO's technical resolution,
It is recommended that where two or more countries share a given geographical feature (such as, for example, a bay, strait, channel or archipelago) under a different name form, they should endeavour to reach agreement on fixing a single name for the feature concerned. If they have different official languages and cannot agree on a common name form, it is recommended that the name forms of each of the languages in question should be accepted for charts and publications unless technical reasons prevent this practice on small scale charts. e.g. English Channel/La Manche. [4] [5]
so, exclusively 'sea of japan name use' did not permited. "Sea of japan/ East sea"(same use) is right.
I correct from JPOV edit. also, i already discussed in this page.[6]Panelequal3 05:12, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check the wikipedia Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean) =

Check the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Korean). According to Wikipedia naming convention,

Per the vote that took place from 18 July 2005 to 8 August 2005 here, this is the new naming convention for the body of water that separates Japan and Korea:

  1. For all international articles use: [[Sea of Japan]]
  2. For all Japan articles use: [[Sea of Japan]]
  3. For all Japan/Korea and South Korea articles use: [[Sea of Japan]] (East Sea)
  4. For all Japan/North Korea articles use: [[Sea of Japan]] (East Sea of Korea)
  5. For all Korea and South Korea articles use: [[Sea of Japan]] (East Sea)
  6. For all North Korea articles use: [[Sea of Japan]] (East Sea of Korea)

Per the conditions of the vote, use (East Sea) only once at the first mention.

so, Sea of Japan (East Sea) is right.

admin, you must check first WP:NVPanelequal3 09:54, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an international article. Hence Sea of Japan. -- Chris 73 | Talk 09:59, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another General Tojo sock?

Photo use

I want to use a photo of yours on a protest sign. The photo says, "u can use this image freely for any purpose, including commercial use, provided that you license it under one of the above licenses. My suggestion is to use the following text: This Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons image is from the user Chris 73 and is freely available at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Whale_meat_on_dish.jpg under the creative commons cc-by-sa 2.5 license." What does this mean? It seems to mean I have to put these words on the photo, which is about the same as saying I can't use the photo as a photo. Is this correct? I'm not trying to license the phote. I tried to understand GNU Free Document License but it does not seem to apply to photos. The Creative Commons seems to be about commercial use only. I looked for this information on Wikipedia but could not find it. Thanks for the help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.2.17 (talk) 05:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What or how do you want to use the photo? The text usually goes e.g. in the subtitle or the credits, but this depends on how the photo is used. The CC license in this case also allows for commercial use (otherwise it would say "NC" for non-commercial) -- Chris 73 | Talk 09:39, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
