William “Billy” or “Willie” Herd was a U.S. soccer left halfback who earned one cap with the U.S. national team. He also played eight seasons in the American Soccer League.

Professional

Herd played with the New York Field Club in 1921-1922 American Soccer League season.[1] He moved to Paterson Silk Sox for the 1922-1923 season.[2] Paterson won the 1923 National Challenge Cup over St. Louis Scullin Steel.[3] In 1923, he returned to New York F.C.[4] When New York folded following the end of the season, Herd moved to Indiana Flooring for the 1924-1925 season.[5] In 1925, he moved to the Brooklyn Wanderers.[6] At some point, he moved to the New York Giants, playing at least the 1928-1929 season with them.[7]

National team

Herd earned one cap with the U.S. national team in a 6-1 win over Canada on November 11, 1925.[8]
