Holy Family School in Port Allen, Louisiana, opened on September 5, 1949 under the sponsorship of Holy Family Parish. Father Domsdorf, the pastor, welcomed the first principal, Sister Mary Bernadette MSC along with other Marianite Sisters, Sr. Jane Frances and Sr. Paulinus. Grades K-3 had an opening enrollment of 146 students with a tuition of $4.00 per month.

The school quickly grew. In 1950 the fourth and fifth grades were added and in 1951 the sixth grade. Seventh and eighth grades joined the rest of the elementary grades in 1952 and 1953 with a total enrollment of 345 students.

1961 was another growing year when the new building which now houses grades four through eight was opened. Further renovations took place in 1990 when a new library was built. Since then a science lab, an art studio, a computer lab, and a music studio have been added. Soon there will be further expansion as Holy Family Parish embarks upon a capital fundraising campaign.

Still under the administration of the Marianities of Holy Cross, Holy Family School is staffed by certified educators. It employs an Assistant Principal, a Guidance Counselor, Religion Coordinator, Librarian, Resource Teachers, Art Teacher, two PE teachers, Computer Teacher, and Music Teacher. Six full-time aides assist in the library and primary classrooms.
