London International Airport or London Airport, (IATA: YXU, ICAO: CYXU), is located 5 nautical miles (9.3 km) northeast of the city of London, Ontario, Canada.

It was built in 1939 near Dorchester, on a location that was then outside the city limits of London but has since been annexed into the city. It was originally an air base under the command of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan, where pilots from the British colonies and former colonies were trained. It is now operated by the Greater London International Airport Authority.

The airport is the 12th[citation needed] busiest passenger airport in Canada, and in 2006 was the 19th busiest in terms of aircraft movements.[2] It serves Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz, Allegro Airlines, Northwest Airlines, and WestJet Airlines. It also provides services for cargo airlines.

The airport is classifed as an airport of entry by NAV CANADA and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency. CBSA officers at this airport currently can handle aircraft with no more than 180 passengers, however they can handle up to 450 if the aircraft is unloaded in stages.[3]

Every June an airshow is held at the airport, which attracts aircraft and spectators from all over the world. However this past July the Airshow was held in St Thomas.

History

London International Airport has experienced tremendous growth as of late. With WestJet entering the market during the early 2000s, an increase in terminal size was needed. As a result, London International Airport's terminal was completely renovated and expanded to meet passenger needs during the mid 2000s.
