Kevin Sheedy was born 21 October 1959 in Builth Wells in Wales. He is mainly remembered for playing football for Everton during a successful spell in the 1980s.

He was a left-winger who could pass the ball accurately and scored often. Though not the fastest player, he was devasting at set-pieces and with well-timed through-balls. However later in his career with Everton he suffered recurring injuries.

Sheedy started his career with Hereford United followed by a short spell with Liverpool where he made two league appearances before switching to Everton for £100,000 in 1982. At Everton he made 357 appearances (12 as substitute) and scored 97 goals (a considerable achievement for a midfield player).

Sheedy's greatest achievements were as part of the Everton team which in 1984 won the FA Cup, in 1985 and 1987 won the Football League Championship and also in 1985 the European Cup Winners' Cup.

Sheedy left Goodison Park in 1992 on a free transfer to join Newcastle United where he helped them win promotion and later played for Blackpool. Since retiring from playing, he has been assistant manager at Tranmere Rovers and Hartlepool United.

Despite his birthplace Sheedy won 45 caps for the Ireland scoring nine goals, including one in a game in the World Cup in Italy in 1990 against England.
