Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 is a first-person shooter for the Wii and the PlayStation Portable. It is an installment in the long-running Medal of Honor series of World War II games. Each version was built from the ground up for its respective system. The Wii version was announced at Nintendo's E3 2007 Press Conference on July 11, 2007. Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 was released on November 13, 2007.
Features
Players will play as OSS Operative John Berg and will infiltrate Normandy from behind enemy lines to undermine the Nazi regime. The traditional single player campaign is back with 8 levels, along with a 32-player online, continuous-joining multi player mode for both systems on EA Nation, and bypass Nintendo's network (and thus Friend code). There are six maps and three game modes available for the online multiplayer as well as the ability to add friends and send messages. While in the lobby, you can send phrases that are what you would normally say such as "Join my game" or send custom messages. During the actual game you can say this "Back me up" or "Affirmitave" or send a custom message. The Wii version also features a second control mode made for the Wii Zapper, but does not include lightgun capabilities.
The Wii version also features a mode where the game is played on-rails, the game will move for the player, who only needs to shoot and achieve objectives. It has been described as being a pick-up-and-play mode for players of any skill level. [citation needed]
The Wii version includes a tutorial mode which acts as an electronic manual. It explains and maps out basic movements and actions used during the game and includes animations of how to correctly complete the gestures, as well as allowing the player to test these gestures. Although it does not offer the player to test these actions in a game play situation, for example: it does not give you the option to go through target practice once it explains the aiming and shooting controls.
Multiplayer
There are three different online multiplayer modes available in the game[1] Contrary to the back of the box, there are no split screen or arcade multiplayers available
Deathmatch
The typical first person shooter multiplayer deathmatch mode. All players are on their own and must kill or frag as many players as possible while also attempting to have as little deaths as possible. The player with the highest score at the end of the round wins. The score is equal to the player's total kills minus their total deaths. After each death, the player will spawn at different spawn points on the map
Team DeathMatch
Is similar to the deathmatch mode except there are two teams against each other. Each player belongs to a team and attempts to kill or frag members of the opposite team. At the end of the round, the team with the highest score wins. The team's score is determined by the number of enemy players the team kills.
Infiltration
Also known as capture the flag, this mode involves two teams versing each other. The objective is to steal the opposing team's flag as often as possible. At the end of the round, the team which captured the flag the most is the winner.
UK Delay
In the United Kingdom, the PSP version of the game is still set to be released at the announced date. However, the new release date of the Wii version of the game has to be announced after it was delayed.[2] The exact date of the Wii version release in unknown, but many stores anticipate it to be 8 February 2008, although the developer Electronic Arts has not provided a release date on their site.[3][4][5]
Response
IGN gave the Wii version an 8.4 and an Editor's Choice Award, stating it had the best FPS controls ever for a home console.
NGamer gave the Wii version 72% and praised the game's controls and online features. However, it was criticized for having "low-fi" graphics and basic enemy AI.[6]
Blast Magazine also criticized the artificial intelligence, saying it made "would make Gomer Pyle and Beetle Bailey seem like Harvard graduates." The review also said the game seemed to take elements from other first-person shooter games including the “clouded vision” health system from Call of Duty.[7]. Blast gave the game 3/5 stars, translating to a 6/10.
