The Initial Flight Screening is a preliminary flight training course for newly commissioned U.S. Air Force officers who have been selected for Pilot or Combat Weapons Officer. Previously this course was for candidates who did not already hold a Private Pilot Certificate (PPL) but is now required for all regardless of civilian Pilot rating. The purpose of this course is not only to provide introductory flight training in preparation for Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT), but to assess the student's ability to learn and effectively apply the basic skills necessary to safely operate an aircraft.

The Air Force IFS is located in Pueblo, Colorado and is managed by DOSS Aviation.
