Controversy

Uncensored (top) and censored (bottom) music video for "This Love"

The music video for "This Love" featured lead singer Adam Levine and his then-girlfriend, model Kelly McKee, in extended sex scenes. The video used creative camera angles and Kelly was wearing minimalist a g-string to show as much as possible without actually revealing any of the couple's genitalia, thereby avoiding possible FCC action.[6] A version of the video where a stream of computer-generated flowers cover up more was created for more conservative markets.[7] When asked about his feelings on this, Levine commented, "That was ridiculous."[8] Bass player Madden said that it was "an absurd over-reaction."[9]

Cover versions

Blake Lewis, the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol, performed the song on the show on May 15, 2007. The original version of the song re-entered the iTunes Top 100 chart the day after his performance and Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart at #41 that week. Lewis' studio version was later released on the American Idol official website and in the American Idol Season 6: The Collector's Edition, the compilation of the studio versions of song performed by the finalists of Idol. Limahl also covered the song on Hit Me Baby One More Time. Michael Bublé did a cover of the song on his DVD called "Caught in the Act". Natasha Bedingfield has also done a live version. On October 13, at the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 Grand Finale, Aditya Narayan sang it live.
