Chalkiades or Halkiades (Greek: Χαλκιάδες) is a village in the south of the Larissa Prefecture, Greece. It also serves the seat of the municipality of Polydamantas Its 2001 population was 660 for the village and the municipal district. Chalkiades is located south of Larissa, west of Volos, north of Lamia and Farsala and southeast of Palamas and Karditsa.

Geography

Chalkiades is situated in the Pineios Valley in which farmlands surround the area.

History

Chalkiades has two settlements, Ano Chalkiades which the population originated from the refugees of Dela (now Tilkoy) in historic Cappadocia during the Greco-Turkish War and Kato Chalkiades which came from other inhabitants. The origin of the name comes from the large iron.

Chalkiades has a school, a church and a square (plateia).
