Elyria High School is a High School in Elyria, Ohio. Founded in 1830, it is notable for being the first chartered high school west of the Allegheny Mountains. The oldest section, the Washington Building (built in 1894), is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Technology building was built in 1913. The red-brick Lincoln Building addition was completed in 1924 and was replaced with in the 1950s. It is situated between the Washington and Technology buildings. The vocational building stands separate from the rest of the school. The last addition, including the big gym and auditorium, was completed in 1956.
Reconstruction
Due to Elyria High's age and extremely poor condition, an issue known as Issue 7, passed on May 8 ,2007, after many previous attempts. It will cost less than $9 a month for a $100,000 home owner. That money along with the OSFC funding will be put to rebuild the high school on the same land, along with bought land in the surrounding area. The Washington Building will remain to be renewed to accommodate other educational needs. According to state inspection, the buildings did not meet basic requirements and were in need of replacement. As of April 30, the auditorium was declared unusable considering that the west stage wall was failing. The auditorium was blocked off from anyone entering.[1] However, the auditorium has since been inspected by structural engineers, and with a minor repair, has been reopened. The new school is estimated to be finished in 2010. Construction of the high school is yet to be announced.

- Rocco Gioffre, Class of 1976, Visual Effect Filmography, Award wining visual effects for many feature films from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Blade Runner and Dances with Wolves and continue today in such features as The Scorpion King and The Chronicles of Narnia.
