John Wood (governor)

John Wood (December 20, 1798June 11, 1880) was governor of Illinois, serving from 1860 to 1861.

Wood was born in Moravia, Cayuga County, New York. He served as a member of the Illinois state senate, 1850, and as Illinois lieutenant governor, 1857-60. He assumed the office of governor upon the death of governor William Bissell.

Wood died in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. Interment was at Woodland Cemetery, Quincy.
