Ayumi Lee or Yumi Itō (Template:Lang-ko, Template:Lang-ja, born Ayumi Itō (伊藤亜由美, Itō Ayumi) August 25, 1984, Tottori Prefecture, Japan[1]), from former Korean girl-group Sugar, was raised in Japan for much of her younger life and is the reason for her Japanese accent, although she is now fluent in both languages. Although Ayumi's name is commonly believed to be Japanese in origin, she has explained that her name is hanja-based [2]. She has also attended Korea Kent Foreign School[3].
Personality
When she was in her girl group Sugar, fans already favorited her as the 'sweet' one. By appearing in SBS's many celebrity shows like Xman and Love Letter, people were allowed to see even more of her bubbly and ditzy personality. In the game of Dangyunhaji on Xman, people also saw that she was a tough competitor in the game. She was quickly dubbed the Secret Weapon because she was gutsy and barely lost. During the season 3 episode of Love Letter, she performed her Cutie Honey dance and many were surprised at her sexiness, though she was jokingly teased afterward to set the mood back. During the games, she usually likes to pair off with popular comedian and singer Kim Jong Min and they have become a notoriously funny couple as she was still learning how to speak Korean then and Kim Jong Min added a strange expression to his words. The both have made fun each other of it before but Kang Ho Dong teases them the most. During the last episode of Love Letter where they were doing a send-off special for the main stars recounting their most famous moments, Ahyoomee was part of Kim Jong Min's as she was " ...one of the beautiful girls who helped Jong Min shine brighter."
Added to her acting, she has been in the MBC program Rainbow Romance along with many other popular celebrities, mainly Super Junior members Kim Ki Bum. Ahyoomee appeared when she came to search for Ki Bum after she had fallen for him when they were friends in Japan. She adds much comedy relief to the show, normally by opposing her regularly sweet personality. Most of it comes when she spontaneously bursts into multiple-second swear words, accompanied by a censoring beep, then with the reactions and close-ups of whoever's in the area, with her covering her mouth in the end in apologization. She has showcased her singing ability and showed off her comedic ability once again in this show and became closer to the Super Junior Family, mainly Ki Bum, Han Kyung and Choi Siwon as she had been with them in previous other shows as well.
She was also included in MBC's Star Korean Dance Battle in 2006 along with her previous Sugar member Soo Jin and they were in the first battle, dancing the full version of the hip-hop dance they previewed in a Love Letter episode, with Missy Elliott's "Lose Control" as accompanying track.
Music
Ayumi stated on the 66th episode of SBS's Xman that she was discovered at a H.O.T. concert. The singer debuted in 2002 as part of the girl group Sugar, contributing to their 3 Korean and 2 Japanese albums. She has recently branched out as a solo artist, releasing two digital singles. The first, a cover of the theme song for Cutie Honey (also covered by Koda Kumi), came out on July 13, 2006 with a lot of fanfare, as Ayumi was criticized for her heavy accent and the overall Japanese feel of performances on the various Korean music shows[4]. However, the song became a hit online, and Lee performed the song for much of the summer. Her second digital single, "잘못된 만남" (Wrongful Meeting) was released on November 7, 2006, and is a cover of Kim Gun Mo's hit from 1995. On New Year's, she performed Yuki No Hana, a cover of Mika Nakashima's song as a special treat. She switched labels in early 2007, moving to SM Entertainment[5], contributing to their summer album in their title song. In the MV for the title song, "Let's go on a trip!", you can see pictures of her and hear her singing, though many have confused her with Stephanie, though she wasn't even a part of this album, so it has officially been said that it was Ayumi's voice. Ayumi's current manager in SM Entertainment appears to be Girls' Generation's Sunny's, sister.
Just recently, Ayumi contributed once again to SMTOWN in their winter album and was shown in their MV "Only Love", showing her new look.
