The Sydney Entertainment Centre is an entertainment venue located in Haymarket, Sydney, Australia. Opened in May 1983, the centre is currently owned by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, which administers the neighbouring Darling Harbour area, and managed under a lease. It is one of Sydney's larger concert venues and has hosted a variety of local and international acts over many years. SEC is averaging an attendance of 1 million people each year. Capable of seating almost 12,500 people, it hosts concerts, family shows, sporting events and corporate events.
A wide range of musical artists have performed at the centre such as Coldplay, Metallica, Black Eyed Peas, Evanescence and Coolio as well as international circuses and shows such as Disney on Ice. As a sporting venue, the SEC is best known as the home stadium for the Sydney Kings basketball team, but other sports such as boxing, tennis and indoor motor-cross have also been held there. In the 2000 Summer Olympics, the SEC was the venue for the volleyball tournaments.
On January 22nd 2008, Rage Against the Machine performed their first headline show outside of the United States since their break up in September 2000. It has been reported that this concert would have the highest attendance of any band ever at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.
