Waterman ship and references

More references should be found for this article. For example, we ought to have a reference that he really died while at sea, and perhaps we should have an article on the Waterman ship. I found it is being mentioned at NL Encarta but I'd prefer a better reference. Can you find any, or can you point to any information on the Waterman ship?
