|} Rosario + Vampire (ロザリオとバンパイア, Rozario to Banpaia) is a Japanese manga series that originally was serialized in Monthly Shonen Jump between 2004 and June 2007. A single extra chapter was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2007. In November 2007, the manga began regular serialization again, now in Jump Square and is unfinished. An anime adaptation started broadcast in Japan on January 3 2008

Plot

Tsukune Aono is a painfully average high school freshman who is unable to get into any private schools due to his disappointing grades. The only school that he is finally accepted into turns out to be a secret school for supernatural monsters (yokai) who are in disguise as humans. The first student that Tsukune meets is the beautiful Moka Akashiya, who takes an immediate liking to him for an unusual reason; she is a vampire and is attracted to the sweet taste of his human blood. Tsukune quickly realizes that his admission into a monster school must have been a mistake and fears for his life.

Despite Moka's vampiric nature, she is a sweet girl and Tsukune quickly falls in love with her. He decides to stay at the monster boarding school to be near her despite the various dangers. He must hide his human identity from the teachers and other students while trying to keep his grades up and avoiding conflicts with the various not-so-mythological monsters lurking around campus. Tsukune soon discovers that when he removes the cross-shaped amulet attached to the rosary around Moka's neck, she transforms into her true form, a "super-vampire" that is stronger and more powerful than almost any other creature at the school. However, in super-vampire form, Moka has a different personality that is often cold and merciless, so the rosary amulet is only removed in dire emergencies. Tsukune and Moka soon make new friends as their stay at Yokai Academy progresses. Along the way they make friends and enemies of different kinds of many different species, often resulting in near-death situations.

Characters

Tsukune Aono (青野 月音, Aono Tsukune)
Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio
Main male protagonist. A completely average human being, he is mistakenly enrolled in an academy for youkai. He soon meets Moka Akashiya, a Vampire who takes an interest in him due to the 'sweet' taste of his blood. Afraid for his life and ready to leave the school, it is only his feelings for Moka that get him to continue attending the youkai academy. Though he has no special powers of his own, he constantly attempts to protect his friends with his own life. Later on he acquires Vampiric, and then ghoul-based powers (the latter of which puts his humanity in jeopardy), allowing him to fight toe-to-toe with supernatural opponents.
Moka Akashiya (赤夜 萌香, Akashiya Moka)
Voiced by: Nana Mizuki
Moka is the first person Tsukune met when he first set foot on the monster realm. Moka's true form is a vampire but she is very sweet and kind. She takes a liking to Tsukune after sucking his blood and seems to get addicted on doing so. In addition to sucking Tsukune's blood, she also has the ability to inject Tsukune with her own. This results in Tsukune temporarily gaining powers comparable to Moka's unleashed strength, though the process eventually begins to break Tsukune's body down. When her rosary around her neck is removed, the seal that was keeping her true nature is released. Cold and bloodthirsty, the 'inner' Moka is actually a completely different entity from the 'outer' Moka, even going so far as to specifically remind Tsukune to 'be kind to the other Moka'. It's revealed in an omake that she loves tomato juice, but prefers Tsukune's blood more.
Yukari Sendo (仙童 紫, Sendo Yukari)
Voiced by: Kimiko Koyama
Her true form is a witch. Yukari is a blatant bisexual. She always like wearing a witch costume (which consist of hat and cape), which is considered by some of the students to be a violation of the school rules. Despite being the smartest student around the Yokai Academy, ranking #1 on the examination, she was lonely and a serious prankster before meeting Moka. She initially hates Tsukune since she claims she's in love with Moka, and uses her magical powers to try and drive them apart. However, after both Tsukune and Moka save her from her monster classmates, she falls for HIM too. Her obsession with both has driven her to try to create a 3-way relationship between them all. As a witch, she had serious problems with being discriminated against as the witches are viewed as the "border beings". Border beings are beings that are viewed as being something between humans and supernaturals as it is impossible to tell the difference by appearance alone. After making friends with Moka and Tsukune, she apologized to her class and became better received by her classmates. She's also the youngest of the students of the academy, being only 11 years old.
Kurumu Kurono (黒乃 胡夢, Kurono Kurumu)
Voiced by: Misato Fukuen
Her true form is a succubus. She's quite jealous of Moka due to the fact that Moka's popularity is overshadowing her popularity. She tried to take Tsukune away from her by seducing and using her ability to charm people and make them her slave. Later on, Kurumu is only doing that because she wants to find her "destined one" among the guys to save her dying breed and has an assumption that Moka is blocking that path. She got defeated by the Super Vampire Moka and was spared because Tsukune persuaded the Super Vampire Moka to not kill her. She then makes a decision that Tsukune will be her "destined one" and was friends to Moka and Tsukune from then on. It is revealed in an omake that Kurono has a serious weakness for sweets-to the extent that she ate poisoned cookies that she made and planned to give to Moka.
Mizore Shirayuki (白雪 みぞれ, Shirayuki Mizore)
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya
Her true form is a Yuki Onna, an "Ice Woman". Keeping in line with the Japanese mythological creature, she has the ability to control ice at will. She also has the ability to make multiple ice clones of herself. First appearing in ch. 18, she returned to school after a long absence and showed an immediate interest in Tsukune. In truth, she had become completely infatuated with Tsukune, going so far as to create her own journal/scrapbook with all of Tsukune's newspaper articles. She once confessed to a teacher she liked, but the teacher tried to take advantage of her and she froze him. That and the rumors that spread after, made it hard for her to trust anyone. She took a liking to Tsukune because she believed that he was a loner just like herself. She believed that Moka was in her way of getting Tsukune's complete affection and thus tried to kill her. She eventually warmed up to the others after being saved by Tsukune in his temporary vampire form. After being saved she also begins stalking Tsukune on a daily basis.
Ginei Morioka (森丘 銀影, Morioka Ginei)
Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki
President of the newspaper club, his true form is a werewolf. He's also a shameless peeping tom. He starts out as an antagonist to Tsukune, but he becomes friendly to him by the end of chapter 4. After a while, he ceases his schemes so that people will stop calling a peeping tom. He is in love with Moka, although the love is completely one-sided. However, he still hasn't given up on Moka. It should be noted, however, that he has no second thoughts about trying to impress other girls as well. While working in the newspaper club, he tends to leave all the work to his subordinates, including the distribution of the paper. One notable fact about him is that when a full moon is shining brightly, he is very fast; much faster than Moka in her vampire form. While werewolves in general are stated to have their power wax and wane with the lunar cycle in this manner, it is unknown if all werewolves receive this much of a boost in power. It should also be noted that he is very fast even when the moon isn't shining brightly-just not to the same extent.
Shizuka Nekonome (猫目 静, Nekonome Shizuka)
Voiced by: Kikuko Inoue
One of the school teachers and the advisor for the Newspaper Club. She is a Nekomusume (cat girl) who likes to eat raw fish. According to an omake, she likes goldfish. She appears to have a rather carefree attitude.
Bus Driver
Voiced by: Norihiro Inoue
A very mysterious bus driver who seems to know more than he reveals, and constantly shows up to offer advice to Tsukune. He was the one who asked the exorcist to help Tsukune during the incident where he became a ghoul.
Ruby
Voiced by: Chiba Saeko
A witch from the human realm and at first was part of a plot to destroy humanity as revenge for humanity destroying the witch's sanctuary, but then due to Tsukune among others helping her when she was injured, she sided with them and helped stop her mentor from destroying humanity (though the mentor lost her life in the process after sacrificing herself to protect Ruby)
She re-appears later along side an exorcist in helping Tsukune during when he becomes a ghoul and stays alongside with him while at hospital after Tsukune's recovery from the fight with Inner Moka.

An anime only character. A bat who acts like a narrator saying things like how long a battle takes place and occasionally covering up fanservice.
