Dawat-e-Islami which means 'Invitation towards Islam', is a non-political, non-governmental, international Islamic organization. Its principle objective is to preach and guide Muslims. The foundations were laid in Pakistan in a similar fashion of Tablighi Jamaat which is already globaly active in the world.
History
Dawat e Islami (Dawateislami/دعوت اسلامی) was founded in 1980 in Karachi by Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri .It is active in more than 66 Countries .
Charity Collections
It collects Zakat and fitra of the community in the Month of Ramazan for its Islamic Missionary activities.In the year 2006 the Dawat-e-Islami beat the Khidmat-e-Khalq Foundation (KKF) of the MQM ,a Political party, in collecting the most funds.Dawat-e-Islami collected Rs 44.5 million out of the total Rs 83.51 million [1].
Criticism
The group has been criticized within Islam because they are thought to be involved in polytheism (shirk). The main criticism has been what the critics believe, excessive respect bordering on deification of the Prophet Muhammad which is considered against the tenets of Islam.[citation needed]
Hospitals
Hospitals have been set up where students get treated free of charge if necessary they are treated and if needed they are taken to bigger hospitals for treatments.
Maktaba-tul-Madina
This unit of Dawat-e-Islami publishes and distributes religious books, booklets, pamphlets. It also releases audio cassettes and CDs of Qira’at, Naat, Speeches, etc. The mission of this unit is to spread Islamic literature as much as possible at minimum prices to Muslims in the country and overseas.
Biggest Congregation After Hajj:
As well as the weekly Congregations, international and provincial level Congregations also take place in which not thousands but millions of lovers of the Prophet (peace be upon him) attend and after the Ijtima many fortunate brothers travel on the Madani Qafilay. In Madina-tul-Auliya Multan Shareef (Pakistan), a three day international Ijtima takes place every year. Madani Qafilay from all around the world participate in this Ijtima. Without a doubt, this is the largest Islamic gathering in the world after Hajj. Much land of Sehra-e-Madina Madina-tul-Auliya Multan and Sehra-e-Madina Baab-ul-Madina Karachi is owned by Dawat-e-Islami.
