Delete - Since there is an alternate image for this. StuartDD contributions 17:23, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - now a proper fair use rationale, the change from the 1970s to 2005 version is dicussed in the article. The use of the toy sonic screwdriver instead of the shot from the episode is inappropriate for use as the design is still copyright BBC - it would be like using a photograph of a book as a free image to show the copyrighted cover. Will (talk) 17:37, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are different rules governing images of 2D and 3D objects, the obvious Doctor Who usage would be the TARDIS, the copyright to the design belongs to the BBC, however a photo of this 3D object taken in the UK is available under a free licence, and widely used in this wikiproject. Fasach Nua (talk) 17:55, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the TARDIS' copyright is a controversial subject - both the Metropolitan Police and the BBC claim they own the image rights to the police box (and a point can be made that the image is uncopyrightable as well). Will (talk) 18:08, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the TARDIS is not copyrighted, but trademarked; as the design preceded Doctor Who, it is not eligable for copyrigth by the BBC. That is why the TARDIS can be used. The image of the toy however, falls strictly speaking under NFCC (see the looong discussions on Transormers toys). In that light, I prefer to keep the screenshot and delete the toy photo. EdokterTalk 18:25, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would you link that discussion? please Fasach Nua (talk) 19:57, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
EdokterTalk 23:14, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for posting those, this seems to be definitve, If the copyright status of he two images is the same, then quality of image, would suggest keeping the TV screenshot, and removing the toy (WP:NFC 3a) Fasach Nua (talk) 23:26, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image kept. Image is not replaceable by an image of toy sonic screwdrivers, both are fair use. -Nv8200p talk 01:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Deletion Is it deleted already? But this is not copyrighted, it is a historical plaque which is put out there to be read and photographed. Note:
    • It does not have a copyright indication on it. The historical society that put it up wants the information known and expressly does not copyright it.
    • Also there are numerous websites which photograph plaques and/or gravestones, consistent with there being no problem with this. One with plaques is a plaques website.
    • Consider somewhat different issue of stock market prices. Stock markets may want to copyright and sell the open, high, low, closing prices of their stocks, but it is found that they cannot both publish such information daily in newspapers and claim that it is proprietary. Hence it is public domain if you will collect it from the newspapers (you can copyright a database of collected, verified, modified stock prices however.) Here, we are collecting it from the field observations directly. doncram (talk) 01:18, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I believe this is covered under {{PD-MNGov}}

Image deleted. There is no proof this is not copyrighted just because it is erected for the public to read. It does not have to have any copyright indication on it to be copyrighted. This plaque was erected by the Metropolitan Airports Commission, which is a quasi-governmental entity created by state law and they have copyrighted their website. No reason to think their other creations, like this marker, are not copyrighted also. I believe the {{PD-MNGov}} is bogus. Making information accessible to the public is not the same as the information being released to the public domain. -Nv8200p talk 01:47, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I believe this is covered under {{PD-MNGov}} (Minnesota Dept. of Transportation)

Image deleted. There is no proof this is not copyrighted just because it is erected for the public to read. It does not have to have any copyright indication on it to be copyrighted. This plaque was erected by the Minnesota Historical Society, a private not-for-profit organization chartered in 1849 by the Minnesota Territorial Legislature (but not a state agency). They have copyrighted their website. No reason to think their other creations, like this marker, are not copyrighted also. {{PD-MNGov}} would not apply in this, but I believe the {{PD-MNGov}} is bogus. Making information accessible to the public is not the same as the information being released to the public domain. -Nv8200p talk 02:02, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
