Featured sounds
I noticed that you have participated Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 18:13, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Mendelssohn's Violin (and Piano) Sonata (Opus 4)
It is not an automatic given to remove the 'Piano' part of this page link (Violin_Sonata,_Op._4_(Mendelssohn)). There is a piano in the work, however that is no longer evident from the page as you've edited it.
I found this confusing at first when I looked up the work after listening to it - perhaps other people will also find it confusing?
For that reason, I don't believe it is 'unnecessary' to have the word 'piano' in the title. I'd be interested to know how it hurts to have it there. Don't you believe the piano's presence should at least be worked into the text of the article? Remember that not everyone who reads WP is an expert in the assumed parts of a violin sonata. HWV 258 02:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding the 'piano' part to the page. I think it is necessary as the Violin_sonata page says that the piano is optional and doesn't actually define the "classical sonata". HWV 258 03:22, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:CELLO LIVE PERFORMANCES JOHN MICHEL-TCHAIKOVSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO 3rd mvt .ogg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:CELLO LIVE PERFORMANCES JOHN MICHEL-TCHAIKOVSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO 3rd mvt .ogg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:CELLO LIVE PERFORMANCES JOHN MICHEL-TCHAIKOVSKY VIOLIN CONCERTO 3rd mvt .ogg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. A new Oxbridge user box
CenturionZ 1...I am currently in the process of writing a user box for all of the colleges that are part of Oxbridge. This template is meant to replace your current college template. Please take a look at the work in progress and comment on it. My main concerns are college abbreviations and color choice. I am using scarf colors for the colleges. Thank you. - LA @ 17:27, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Banners
Hi. I see you have changed then banners on Talk:Karl Elmendorff. Maybe not an important matter, but I have bannered many conductor articles in the past thinking I was being helpful. After all it was decided in September 2007 that conductors belong in Classical Music. Almost all opera conductors work in the concert hall as well - which is why the broader project seems more appropriate. Can you possibly let me know how you see this? Thanks. Best wishes. -- Kleinzach (talk) 01:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've given my thoughts at the WP:CM page. Basically I think WP:CM should be either pan-classical music or just stay away from biographies. The point is that WP:CM supposedly does not cover composers as they are in WP:Composers. But...many conductors were composers as were many classical musicians (violinists, pianists etc.) By saying WP:CM covers conductors, what should really happen is that WP:Composers should also be covered by WP:CM otherwise the project's reach is very haphazard and arbitrary. I would be delighted to hear your reply. I have no issue with conductors falling under WP:CM - my issue is just that if they do, so should every classical musicians and composer. Centy – reply• contribs – 01:40, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- You are certainly entitled to your opinions - and there is a lot of sense in what you say. However overlapping projects are the norm on WP (see my comments on the project talk page). Please consider the Opera Project organization - we have two descendants, Wagner and G&S. The relationship between the umbrella cat 'Classical Music' and the mores specific 'Composers' is essentially the same. -- Kleinzach (talk) 02:07, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
The big debate
Thanks for your contributions. Can I make a few points to you directly?
First, opera actually comes under 'Performing Arts' in the structure. The reason for this is that it is both music and theatre/drama. Of course, opera is closely connected to the music projects . . . Second, I'm also in favour of most infoboxes! The only ones that are a problem are biographical ones!
Lastly, if CM was going to be subdivided I think it would be logical to set up a dedicated Compositions Project. If you want to do this - and I think this is where your interest lies - I would be happy to help you. Regards. -- Kleinzach (talk) 03:40, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your support. I will look into making a Compositions WikiProject. We probably should talk to the guys over at WP:Composers before we collate the two projects as effectively just taskforces of WP:CM. Centy – reply• contribs – 03:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- WP:Composers are obviously independent so they'd have to agree to a new kind of relationship with CM. (Also note Voceditenore's comment on CM about Composers being classical but their project description not stating the fact clearly.) Logically Contemporary Music should also be in the fold but they may resist the idea. Creating logical structures on WP is extremely difficult - though setting up a Compositions Project would be easy enough.. -- Kleinzach (talk) 04:07, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Hi - a stub template or category which you created has been nominated for deletion or renaming at Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion. The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Please feel free to make any comments at WP:SFD regarding this stub type, and in future, please consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 07:54, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Classical tag
Sure. I'll try to use the more verbose tag from now on. It was so easy to type {{Classical}}, though whenever I saw a red "discussion" tab. :-) Having an additional redirect template might make things easier (e.g. {{classicalcomp}})... but I'll admit I might be dreaming there. I went back to April 6th and updated all my tags. For other articles, it should be easy to find them in the old category. DavidRF (talk) 19:54, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks a lot, Centy. I really appreciate it. :) And thanks for all your work on the project, especially manning those long and arduous AWB sessions. ALTON .ıl 19:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well, yes and no, but mostly no. It started as a grand ambition, but first of all I don't know how to execute the idea, and it seems like a lot of work for a little payoff. I would rather not have it go live if the talk page is sufficient for updating members on the projects, since all members should have it watched. What do you think, do we need it? Thank-you for nominating Image:Frederic Chopin - Opus 10 - Twelve Grand Etudes - A flat Major.ogg, to be a featured sound, here. In order to be promoted according to the criteria more information is needed. This information is:
- The date and venue of the recording, where they are recoverable;
- The name(s) of the recordist/producer;
- Any editing that has been applied to the excerpt by the uploader, such as noise reduction by the uploader (aside from obvious fade ups and fade downs at the start and end), and by others, where that information is recoverable;
- Links to a musical score in digital format where available;
