Pokémon Book 1: I Choose You

Pokémon #1 I Choose You is an adaptarion by Tracey West of some Pokémon episodes.

Plot

The book begins with Ash Ketchum, the protagontist, lying in his pyjamas, watching a gym battle between Gengar and Nidorino. Ash's mother, Delia Ketchum, interrupts and makes Ash watch about Professor Samuel Oak's Pokémon. He falls asleep and wakes up the next morning late to receive his Pokémon. He eventually arrives and is given a Pikachu which initially has a mardy tempermant. He attempts to catch a Pidgey but fails, and is then attacked by a flock of Spearow. They fall down a water fall and are caught by Misty fishing for Water Pokémon. They borrow Misty's bike and are chased by the Spearow. To save them, Pikachu uses Thundershock. Pikachu is rushed to the Viridian City Pokémon Center. There he is scolded by Nurse Joy. There the Centre is attacked by Team Rocket. In a thrilling battle, Ash finally defeats them and sends them blasting off. Ash, Misty and Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader, arrive in Vermilion City. After healing Pikachu, they challenge the gym leader, Lt. Surge. Pikachu looses to a Raichu. Nurse Joy says that if Pikachu evolves it could beat Raichu. Pikachu doesn't want to be evolved so Ash and friends work out a strategy. After a battle, won by Pikachu, Ash and his friends relax at a campsite. Pikachu finds a herd of wild Pikachu is accepted. However, the Pikachu scatter when Ash comes. Ash decides to leave Pikachu, but then Pikachu makes him change his mind. The book ends with the sun rising above Vermillion City.



Trivia

Gary Oak takes Squirtle, the Pokémon Ash would have chosen.
In this book, it says centres have glass roofs. This does not fit either with the games or the animé.
