Kristal Marshall (born November 11 1983), is an American model and professional wrestler best known for her work in World Wrestling Entertainment on its SmackDown! brand.
Career
Prior to working for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Marshall appeared as a competitor in the 2004 Miss California pageant,[2] as a model for Deal or No Deal,[3] in music videos for 50 Cent and Ma$e,[3] in commercials for The Best Damn Sports Show Period, and was at one time a Barker Beauty on The Price Is Right.[4]
World Wrestling Entertainment
Marshall first entered WWE as a contestant in the 2005 RAW Diva Search, in which she eventually finished fourth.[5] Despite not winning the Diva Search contract, Marshall was signed to a development deal soon after the contest finished and sent to Deep South Wrestling, WWE newest "farm territory" at that time.[1] In December of 2005, she joined the SmackDown! roster as a backstage correspondent,[6] interviewing the brand's superstars during the shows. Her first actual feud on the brand came against Jillian Hall. Marshall defeated Hall in debut match—a "Divas Uncovered" match—on the March 10 2006 SmackDown!.[7] When Diva Search winner Ashley Massaro joined the SmackDown! brand, Marshall was turned heel and put into an angle where she was jealous of Massaro's Diva Search win.[8] She was aligned with Michelle McCool and the two feuded with Massaro and Jillian Hall,[9] leading to a Fatal Four Way Bra and Panties match at The Great American Bash,[10] during which Marshall was (legitimately) injured,[11] though she didn't miss any time. In September, the next years Diva Search winner, Layla El, arrived on the brand Marshall was put into a feud with her.[12] This one had Marshall aligned with Mike "The Miz" Mizanin against Layla and the Boogeyman.[13] Kristal competed in the first ever Extreme Strip Poker segment on ECW on October 10 representing SmackDown! alongside fellow smackdown diva Ashley.
In February 2007, Marshall began a storyline which had her as a close friend of Vickie Guerrero, who was mysteriously planning something,[14] and then flirting with SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long.[15] After Marshall confessed her love for Long,[16] she convinced him to hire Guerrero as his assistant,[17][18] leaving her in charge of the show on occasion.[19] Eventually Long proposed marriage,[20] only to suffer a (kayfabe) heart attack during the in-ring wedding on September 21.[21]. Marshall was released from the company sometime in the week of October 30, 2007.
On November 19, 2007, Kristal released the following statement about why she was released by WWE: [22]:
...I did not want to do a morally degrading storyline with Edge that was already done, plain and simple. Lita was in my opinion the greatest female wrestler of all time (next to Jazz). Lita revolutionized the world of wrestling. She showed that women could be strong, beautiful, and be a draw in the sexiest world of wrestling. She had little girls watching her wanting to become an athlete instead of a princess when they grew up. She was also one of the few women who wrestled men. With blood, sweat, tears and a broken neck later, she earned the respect of everyone in the wrestling business. So the WWE had the bright idea of turning her personal business into a public free for all. Sure that "storyline" transformed a well-loved baby face into a huge heel, but at whose expense? Look at how Trish retired With a Huge Championship win and the fans respect chanting her name…now look at how Lita retired losing the title and being embarrassed on TV. On the day of Lita's retirement, the fans didn't just boo her because she was a heel(bad girl); they booed her because despite all that what she did to women's wrestling, all that they seemed to remember about Lita was the "slutty" vamp she played on TV and thats just not fair and i did not want to be remembered that way by you the fans...
