This was an F5 rated tornado that occured on Agugust 28, 1884. It demolished only one farm, located south of Bridgewater, South Dakota. Four people were killed there, 3 in the open, and two injured. This is the first photographed tornado in the U.S. The photographer is unknown but he took it from Howard. It might've inspired L. Frank Baum to include a tornado in his book, The Wizard of Oz for he was a newsreporter in nearby Aberdeen.
