Template:List of countries The lists of unrecognized or partially recognized countries enumerates those geo-political entities which lack some form of diplomatic recognition, but wish to be universally recognized as sovereign states under the Montevideo Convention. For the list of such entities that existed in the past, see the List of historical unrecognized countries.

Present geopolitical entities by level of recognition

There are 192 United Nations (UN) member states, including the People's Republic of China (PRC), Cyprus, and Korea (North and South). Vatican City is generally recognized as being a sovereign state, but is not a member of the United Nations.
