Tom Chilton (game developer)
Tom Chilton is the lead game designer (specifically over game systems, game balance[1], character classes, combat, items, pvp, auctions, mail system, and world events[2] ) for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft under the nickname "Kalgan". He also was the Lead Designer for an Add-on for the MMORPG Ultima Online called Age of Shadows under the nickname "Evocare".
He has been a controversial figure within the player communities of both games for taking a strongly purist attitude towards team-play in favour of attempts to balance classes in 1v1 situations. This is widely seen to have endeared him and fellow designer Jeffrey Kaplan to experienced or 'hardcore' players at the expense of more casual or fun-based players. He has recently come under fire with accusations of favoritism, and cheating, but no hard evidence has been revealed.
He is widely lauded within the industry for the commercial success of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade although has frustrated those seeking more radical visions of the future of MMORPGs by focusing the effort of Blizzard's development team on more linear character progression (e.g. increases to the level cap) rather than greater player control.
Tom Chilton plays a Warrior In the game World of Warcraft Burning Crusade. Some believe that his decision making is biased, and he over powers the warrior class.
