Mars Ravelo's Dyesebel is an upcoming fantasy Philippine drama that will soon air on GMA Network. It is an adaptation of a famous graphic novel about a mermaid by Mars Ravelo.[1]

Filming begins on late April, or early June, with Marian Rivera on the lead role, and Joyce E. Bernal at the helm.[2]

Overview

Origin

"Dyesebel" is a popular mermaid character created by renowned graphic novelist Mars Ravelo. The story has been adapted into five separate films, and a spin-off, throughout the timeline of 1953 to 1996.[3]

Casting

Many actresses were considered and rumoured for the highly coveted "Dyesebel" role. Before GMA Network bought the rights, rumors afloat that Anne Curtis will do this.[4] Angel Locsin's name was briefly attached, but her revelation to move networks took a toll.

Initially, the names of Rhian Ramos[5], Nadine Samonte[6] and Marian Rivera were the top contenders for the role. Jennylyn Mercado and Katrina Halili were heavily considered for the role; Jennylyn's pregnancy issue removed her name from the list[7], while Katrina expressed no interest on playing the lead role.[8]

On February 8, it was announced that Marian Rivera will play the lead character, her leading man is yet to be revealed. [9]

On February 24 in Showbiz Central it was announced that Dingdong Dantes will be playing the part of Fredo which is Dyesebel love interest.

It was revealed that the role was initially given to Rhian Ramos but because of negative issues hounding her, the management changed their decision and handed the role over to Marian Rivera. Mark Anthony Fernandez was one of the top contenders to play Fredo but Dantes was the management's final choice. [10]
