Super 8 schools

Super 8 is the association of boys schools in the central North Island of New Zealand. The association is mainly a sporting one, which was established in 1997 in response to the lack of competition that the schools faced in their home regions.

The schools are some of the top sporting schools in New Zealand. As an indication, for four years in a row a Super 8 school was the top cricketing school in New Zealand 2002, 2003 - Hamilton; 2004 - Palmerston North; 2005 - Tauranga); in 2007 Super 8 schools were: 1st (Gisborne) and 3rd (Hamilton) in New Zealand at Rugby; 5th (Tauranga), 6th ( Hamilton), 10th (Palmerston North) and 11th ( New Plymouth) at football; 2nd (Palmerston North), 3rd (Tauranga) and 9th (Napier) at hockey; Hamilton won the Maadi Cup and Springbok Shield for boys' rowing; and New Plymouth won the national golf title.
