Loverboy
For the 2001 hit single by Mariah Carey of the same name, see Loverboy (Mariah Carey song).
Loverboy is a Canadian rock and roll group which was very popular in the 1980s, accumulating numerous #1 hit songs in Canada and the United States. They are based in Vancouver, British Columbia but Reno and Dean originally met in Calgary, Alberta. After being rejected by many U.S. record labels, they signed with Columbia Records Canada. They began recording their first album March 20, 1980. The band members are:
- Mike Reno, lead singer
- Paul Dean, lead guitarist
- Scott Smith, bassist (declared dead from being lost at sea November 30, 2000)
- Doug Johnson, keyboardist
- Matt Frenette, drummer
The band were well known in Canada for rock hits like "Working For The Weekend", "Hot Girls In Love" and "Pig and Elephant DNA Just Won't Splice". The latter, written by Robert "Mutt" Lange bears more than a passing resemblance to Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me", co-written by Lange.
In 2005, Loverboy were one of the featured bands on the American version of Hit Me Baby One More Time.
