Asalam o alikum..My name is Babar ali khokhar belongs to hyderabad,sind,Pakistan in web site of khokhar's in wikipedia,i appriciate it,we have approx 600 houses in khokhar mohalla hyderabad, but 1 thing is disturbing me that there r meny tribes i have seen they have sardars,,,,the heads,,u can say mukh,,and they accept them .but why we khokhars dont accept 1 sardar,there are many communities they r manging themselves help the poors,y we dont have 1 community y we r in pieces, y we cant help each other we r brothers khokhars i dont know but 1 unknown love creates if i seem 1 that he is khokhar.kindly help us to being one power only khokhar not sindhi,punjabi,seraiki,pathan khatri ,etc bus thanx............NOTE:I WANT TO SAY THROUGH THIS WEBSITE THAT KINDLY PLEASE ALL RICH OR POOR KHOKHARS MAKE 1.CALL ME ON MY MOBILE ILL HELP U WE WILL HELP EACH OTHER WE CAN IN TOUCH TO EACH OTHERS .THX MY EYES IS WAITING TO BE 1 ONLY 1. - SALAM. i want to ask something about khokher. 1st i want to told you about myself i am ALi from pakistan belongs to khokher family , here on this site i know different things about khokhers, and i am doubtfull about history of khokhers bcoz some says they are RAJPOOTs some says They belongs to ARAB tribe, But here in pakistan mostly peaples do not acept then as RAJPOOT nor ARAB like AWAN's so plz tell me about the real about them, our fourfathers says we belongs to ARAB tribe like as awan and awans are khokhers are same basically. so plz i am waiting for ur answer.

You may consider reading up the pages on the Khokhars from the book "A Glossary of the Tribes and castes of the Punjab and North -West Frontier Province compiled by AH ROSE and based on the Census Report for the Punjab 1883 , by Sir Denzil Ibbetson and the census report for the Punjab 1892 by Sir Edward Maclagan . Published By the Asian Educational Services .

The exact pages for Khokhar History in this book is given in volume II (its a three volume set) pages 539 to pages 549 .

According to this the Khokhars are described as Jats and Rajputs but the article is long and also provides other information .

As one of the contributors to this article I have also provided other sources that I could find from other published books in the main article . You may find it interesting to also read the related articles from the links that you will find to other articles on Wikipedia .

I say this because it seems to me that there seem to be just too many cross refrences to another tribe called the Khokhran from exactly the same region and other historical references as well .

I hope other contributors to this article may also be able to shed light from their knowledge .

Khokhars Jats , Arabs  ?

There are implicit indicators that point to Khokhars being descended from the Khokhrans specially considering not only various cultural caste and historical cross references between these two but also that both Khokhars and Khokhrans were invariably neighbors living in the same region along the Jhelum and in areas in the proximity of the salt range .

But first a look at another question as to the validity and how the Khokhars came to be recorded sometimes as Jats or of Arab extraction .
The origin of the misplaced notion or belief that Khokhars are also Jats may be squarely attributed to the various district Gazette of the Punjab from the late 1800s and then the published glossary’s of A H Rose on the Castes and Tribes of the Punjab based on Ibbetsons census reports .
Fact is that the English themselves were confounded by the definition of who fell into the classification of a Jat , often being further puzzled by how to differentiate Jat from Rajput and other agriculturist people . That they were candid enough to record this (confusion) themselves not once but umpteem times is creditable but this confusion reflected in their own records . Often contradictory information is recorded in preceding paras or lines and nothing denotes this more than their recordings on Khokhars where Khokhars are alluded to being Jats then Rajputs and then neither of the two Jats or Rajput but a great race .

Consider the following text from the Gazetteer of the Shahpur District -

“ ' There are other tribes again which call themselves neither Jat nor Rajput , and yet evidently belong to the same great races the others . For instance the Khokhars , who have been here reckoned separetely in this census , some times claim to be descended from Qutb Shah of Ghazni , and so to be of Arab descent , but many of them return themselves as Rajput or Jat and there can be no doubt that they are of the same race as their neigbours .The Awans again make a still stronger claim to Arab Origin , but they too are probably of the same race as the Jats .

Another distinction arises in this way . An ordinary Jat attains some fame as a holy man , and hands the saintly character down to his descendents , who are called pirs or Miyanas . After a generation or two they claim an Arab origin , and as the fancy takes them call themselves either Sayad or Koreshi ;soon their true origin is forgotten and the Arab origin is believed by themselves and generally admitted by their neighbours .

My father said we are actually belong to Arab. Our ancestor came from afghanistan. one of our ancestor was Sardar Dadan Khan Khokhar a famous chief also known as Malik.
