Chud is a term referring to urban homeless people, especially those who dwell in the tunnels, sewers and subway corridors beneath New York City. The term "C.H.U.D." was coined in a B-movie horror flick of the same name, and was originally an acronym representing the phrase "Cannibalistic Humanoid, Underground Dweller."
Cast
Although the film was of a "pulp" genre and did not receive positive critical reviews, C.H.U.D. was nonetheless praised for its make-up and puppeteering. Among the notable actors with roles in the movie are John Goodman and Christopher Curry, inter alia.
Plot
In the film, the New York City Police Department receive reports of people disappearing from the streets of the city—disturbingly, witnesses say the victims are pulled into manholes by deformed humanoid creatures. A policeman teams with a journalist and a deranged homeless man to investigate the phenomenon.
