Plover is a village in Portage County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 10,520 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 8.9 square miles (23.0 km²), of which, 8.5 square miles (22.0 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it (4.28%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 10,520 people, 3,985 households, and 2,845 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,238.2 people per square mile (477.9/km²). There were 4,133 housing units at an average density of 486.5/sq mi (187.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.82% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.95% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.41% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 3,985 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.9% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 20.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the village the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $51,238, and the median income for a family was $60,146. Males had a median income of $40,206 versus $26,521 for females. The per capita income for the village was $23,085. About 4.2% of families and 6.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.0% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.

Village of Plover which is developing into a regional destination for hotels, shopping, and restaurants. The Village is located on Highway 39 just south of Stevens Point is a midway point for affluent tourists heading to Wisconsin's North Woods from large cites such as Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago. Major retailers are moving into the area, large hotels are being built, and many restaurants are pouring into the Plover area.
