The BaD Radio Show (short for Bob and Dan) is a midday radio program on KTCK, "1310AM, The Ticket". The show is hosted by Bob Sturm and Dan McDowell and airs Monday to Friday from 12pm to 3pm.

History

The show started on The Ticket June 14, 1999 and has since become successful with such original bits as Dude What’s Your Bit?, Gay or Not Gay?, and Homer Call of the Week.

BaD Radio gained national attention after an interview with ESPN College GameDay personality Lee Corso. What started out as a collection of Corso's college football yarns changed when Corso objected to ribbing from McDowell. A heated on-air exchange ensued, with Corso eventually departing.

Bob and Dan have been named "The Best Sports Talk Show" by Ft. Worth Weekly, a long time ago.

Very, very short segments of the show are podcast and available through The Ticket's website.

BOB STURM

Originally from Wisconsin, Bob graduated from Liberty University and started his broadcasting career in Lynchburg, Virginia. He eventually came to Dallas in 1998, where he became the co-host of The Ticket's night time show. He is affectionately referred to as "The Sturminator." Bob is often called a "sports bully" on the show because he constantly intimidates his audience and guests with his encyclopedic sports knowledge, declaring that he's not "just some dude in the next cubicle over." Bob also hosts the Dallas Cowboys pre-game show with Super Bowl MVP Larry Brown, as well as the Dallas Stars post-game show with Dan McDowell and Bob also enjoys a steady diet of AP with an upper decker on the side. Bob's Blog is updated daily. His nickname is "Bug," "Mr. Invisible." and "Jungle Feva"

DAN MCDOWELL

Dan (he has three dads) is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and graduated with a degree in Communications with a minor in Sports Science from Ohio University. He hosted a midday show in Youngstown, Ohio at WHIO, and eventually moved to Dallas in 1999 to become the host of the The Ticket's midday show. He is nicknamed "Southside Flakeboy" or "AM Flakeboy." The show supports Dan's recent vegetarian proclamation and frequently celebrates his lifetime meat-less marathon commitment. Dan also hosts the Dallas Stars post-game show and is an occasional guest on the Ben and Skin Show. A self-proclaimed "sports humorist," Dan is best known for his scalding sense of wit and his confrontational style.He is almost universally reviled for his sick BARBARO jokes and his insufferable interruptions of the hosts,Bob and Donovan.

DONOVAN LEWIS

Donovan is the show's sidekick and delivers the show's opening punchline. He is known to his audience as "The Great Donovan," "Donnie-Doo", or "Stink" (a nickname his wife gave him). Donovan also gave his wife a gift of a an upper decker. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Donnie has several regular segments, including Daily Donovan, where he visits a variety of sports and sports-related topics, Ask a Black Guy, and the wildly popular Ghetto Jeopardy. He occasionally co-hosts the Dallas Mavericks post-game show with Stuart Seder.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tom graduated from Texas A&M University (where he was a Yell Leader), and started his radio career as an intern for Kidd Kraddick where he, according to Dan, fathered Big Al. While with Kraddick, Tom earned the nickname "Flakeboy" during a stunt where he went to a supermarket and asked for a single flake of cereal. In one of his more daring bits, Tom entered a crowded restroom during a hockey game and approached people with questions about the game while they are urinating. This is known as the The Gabby Urinator Bit. Gribble is also a former Marine who served in the Gulf War. This audio sample highlights one of Tom's many on air fights with host Dan after a botched Halloween promotion.

Norm Hitzges, noted Dallas radio personality, took Grubes in and employed him at the Ticket. Since then, Michael has slowly risen in the Ticket food-chain and become the BaD Radio board operator. Grubes enjoys his position (doggy-style) at the Ticket, board-opping both BaD Radio and The Hardline, where he practices the subtle art of black humor. Also known as "Mr. 15 Inches", Grubes can frequently be spotted at Dallas watering hole The Barley House, usually within 3 feet of his leader, Danny "Dan Paul / Eddie" Balis. The following is a drop that Grubes uses to shoehorn in awkward show moments.

SEAN BASS

Also known as "Sea Bass", Bass is the regular "Ticker Guy" for both BaD Radio and the Norm Hitzges Show. Norm frequently introduces Bass as "the Talking Sea Bass", which is inevitably followed by a typical Norm-cackle. In performance of his BaD Radio duties, Bass is most famous for his proclamation that "Food is not gay. Food is delicious."

LINE 4 GUY

An old friend of Dan's from Cleveland, Line 4 Guy calls in nearly every day for Why Today Doesn't Suck. He was recently inducted into the show's Ring of Honor. Line 4 Guy's most famous catchphrase is "hey if you got big boobs, let me hear from ya!" Masterful bon mots such as that have put him where he is today.

Show Segments

Guest Booking League - A seasonal bit wherein all the members of the show attempt to score a big-name interview guest. Each member of the show compiles a list of guests they would like to have on the show. They must then attempt to book a guest from the aforementioned list. By the end of the season, the man who books the least amount of guests is forced to perform some shameful act. In 2005, GBL loser Dan was forced to pose in a speedo and sit in a dunk tank where he was humiliated and ridiculed for hours. The 2006 GBL: Run of Shame featured a race through the streets of Downtown Dallas between the two joint losers of the GBL: Donovan Lewis, who ran in a Catholic school girl outfit, and Ty Walker, who ran like a baby in a giant diaper.

1920s Reporter Guy - A segment where Scoops Callahan (aka Tom Gribble) asks celebrities questions in an Edward G. Robinson voice and 1920s slang. His most notable appearance was after a Dallas Stars/ Phoenix Coyotes game when he approached a defeated Wayne Gretzky. Scoops' past interviews have included Mack Brown, Vince Young, Sidney Crosby, Peyton Manning, Lebron James (twice), Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, Roger Clemens, Wade Phillips, Will Smith, Tom Brady, and Bill Belichick.

Gay or Not Gay? – A segment where the show engages discussion about manly etiquette. In the past, Bob and Dan have ruled that a guy driving a Mini Cooper is gay, Bill Belichick's snow bunny headband over his ears is gay, a guy with briefcase on wheels is gay, and a dude who is too busy planning his wedding is gay. Most recently, Sea Bass issued his famous proclamation that "Food is not gay. Food is delicious." Will often apply the "Sports Exemption" to ordinary acts of gayness.

The Gabby Urinator Bit - A bit usually performed during hockey games on the show's annual Dallas Stars roadtrip. Between periods, Tom grabs a microphone and goes into a crowded restroom, whereupon he asks random people at the urinal questions about the game. During a Stars/Kings game, Tom punk'd Hollywood great Peter Stormare in mid-stream.

Bob Knight Show - A former weekly segment with the surly Texas Tech Red Raiders Basketball coach. On one memorable occasion, Knight serenaded Dan--crooner style--on his birthday.

Homer Call of the Week – A segment that reviews some of the most emotional and over-the-top play-by-play calls from around the sports world. Mike Haynes of the Colorado Avalanche is the bombastic sports broadcaster with whom Bob and Dan credit for birthing the Homer.

S.A.A.A.Q Test - A segment that tests the intelligence of sports athletes. Rick Arnett originated this bit.

Ex-Con Roundtable – Inspired by the HBO series Oz, this segment involves a discussion between ex-cons that tackles penitentiary do’s and don’ts.

Daily Donovan – A segment where Donovan Lewis comments on a variety of issues, ranging from what is on Bob's iPod to Dan's appearance in local news and the like.

Why Today Doesn’t Suck – A drop-heavy segment at the end of the show that reviews celebrity birthdays and highlights their contribution to humanity. Also features a mix and mingle with The Hardline and a pilled-up Line 4 Guy.

Brent Musburger Audio – the show ridicules ABC's Brent Musburger for his down-home manner of speaking, addressing his viewers as "folks" or "rascals". "Down South" Brent often adopts a southern drawl when broadcasting Southern collegiate games, exemplified in his broadcast of Colt McCoy's first game: "Colt McCoy! He's the real McCoy. Born in New Mexico, his daddy put Texas soil under his head in the crib, and he's been a Texan ever since" (in a faux grand style).

Dude, What's Your Bit? – An interview segment that’s devoted to washouts, hobos, and the clinically insane. Dan usually performs this bit when he and the gang are out in California for Dallas Cowboys training camp. In one memorable instance, Dan visited Hollywood Boulevard and got funny by harassing the local homeless.

What's on my TiVo - A segment that highlights prime-time's best television shows, with a heavy focus on Lost, The Shield, To Catch A Predator and The Sopranos.

Ask Sports Sturm - A segment where Sports Expert Bob Sturm will answer the sports related questions sent in by listeners.

The Irv & Joe Game - A road-trip bit requiring members of the show to call in to a generic sports talk station and try to derail the show with nonsensical or pointless conversation. Contestants are judged on the amount of time spent on the air, with bonus points given for changing the topic and interjecting the names of Ticket personalities into the conversation. Grubes holds the record for greatest Irv & Joe bit with a rant lamenting the death of Barbaro, where he asked "What's the point of science?" and stated he was having difficulty coping with the news. Also groused, "All this medical technology and we can't even fix....bones?"

BaD Radio Ring of Honor

The BaD Radio Ring of Honor is a hallowed institution that honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the show.

BaD Radio Curse

The show has been accused of cursing the lives of its many guests. Several athletes and celebrities have suffered severe injuries and/or public disgrace after appearing on the BaD Radio Show. Gabe Kapler was the first known victim of the show's curse, having sustained a season-ending injury while with the Texas Rangers. Other victims have been Bobby Knight, Brad Wilkerson, Dan Campbell, the city of Dallas, Bill Guerin, Gary Matthews Jr., Drew Bledsoe, Nick Van Exel, Dirk Nowitzki and even Liverpool Football Club. Jon Daniels, the current general manager of the Texas Rangers, was widely expected to be the next victim of the curse, but that honor was bestowed upon Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds' 756 Home Run, becoming the all-time home run leader.

On August 22, 2007, the curse had a reverse effect when Bob blasted Texas Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo on his blog and on the show. Hours later, Jaramillo's offense shattered a modern record for runs in a game with 30 against the Baltimore Orioles.
