As the brains behind the band Red Crayola (Krayola) Mayo Thompson is also known for one solo work of particular importance, Corky's Debt to His Father. As this album situates itself somewhere between country and diary other thoughts come to mind pertaining to the idiosyncratic rumblings of spoken lyrics and touching medieval tunings. Unlike a lot of folk music of its time this work goes beyond the soft malevolent wishes of earthly commentary and worries and delves directly into one or two personal encounters, seemingly clear in the confusion of the moment after all argument and insecurity has waned. Probably still a secret album this is one of those constructions beyond simple analysis yet direct in its communication with those moments the listener is least sure of.
