WRPR (90.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Pop Contemporary Hit Radio format. Licensed to Mahwah, New Jersey, USA. The station is currently owned by Ramapo College of New Jersey.[1]Its calls were assigned on October 9, 1979, and it began broadcasting on 1980-07-15.
WRPR today can be heard on 90.3 FM in the Mahwah, New Jersey area, as well as on Ramapo College's closed circuit television system on channel 3 (campus events channel) and channel 10 (live video feed from the studio).
In the original incarnation of WRPR in the mid 1970's, which only broadcasted on campus, the calls stood for "Ramapo People's Radio." Past taglines for the station also included "Ramapo Power Radio", "Real Power Radio", "They Pelted Us with Rocks and Garbage!", "Reasonably better than Dead Air", "WRPR where rock visits, but wouldn't want to live there" and "EXTREME Hit Radio". Their current tagline as of 2006 is "Ramapo Radio".
WRPR was freeform radio in the sense that during anyone's air shift there could be found top 40, or, "Bottem 100." Never really a pre-top 40 format, WRPR has switched as of 2006 to freeform radio.[citation needed]
WRPR won Ramapo College's Organization of the Year award in 1994, and again in 1998.[citation needed]
