The current headmaster is Simon Decker, who has been in his current post for several years. The school is located in Pump Lane, Rainham, and backs onto Thames View Infant School. The site occupied by Rainham Mark Grammar School is estimated to be around 14 acres. A large amount of this is taken up by fields. These fields contain 3 football pitches, a softball pitch, a rounders pitch, an all weather cricket pitch and a lot of space. The school is planning the building of a new Sports Hall, which, if completed on target, may well be completed by 2008.
History
The school was formerly known as Gillingham Technical High School and before moving to its existing purpose built site in Pump Lane was located in Gillingham in Green Street. Its longest serving headteacher Dr. Chris Couch was, when appointed, according to school legend the youngest headteacher in the UK. Mattew Watts attempted to kill everyone with his hamster which he slept with, it was called pride's purge. Matt D & Ryan Couch Rock
Houses
There are six houses in the school into which students in years 7-11 were sorted into; Aylewood, Brontë, Faraday, Newton, Rutherford and Scott. Brontë was the School's newest house, with the first admission of students to the house in 1991.
In 2001, a seventh house was introduced for that entry year only, 'Pankhurst' (after 1900s suffragette leader Emilie Pankhurst) due to massive oversubscribing leading to an increased allowance for that year only. This occurred for the second time in 2006
The sixth form is allocated into alphabetical forms A through H, with an additional form 'P' for the Prefects.
