Song |
"We Break the Dawn" is a pop/dance/R&B song by Michelle Williams, the first single from her forthcoming album Unexpected. It was released on the People.com website on March 31, 2008.[1] Its arrangement is built over simple synth-heavy and an understated back beat, and its lyrics chronicle a woman's feelings on a dance club.
"We Break the Dawn" is the first mainstream pop music single from Williams, moving away from her previous Gospel-oriented style. "Stop This Car", originally slated to be the lead-off single,[citation needed] was pushed back to be released as second single.[2]
Music and structure
"We Break the Dawn" is pop/dance music with R&B-influenced vocals. It sounds very similar to Alicia Keys' "No One."
Reception
In describing the forthcoming album, Hillary Crosley writes, "there's a clear move away from the gospel".[2] When the song premiered on People.com, Brian Orloff posted, "It's a hot new look and new sound".[1]
