Trinidad and Tobago Karate Union

The Trinidad Karate Association is currently the largest shotokan karate organization in Trinidad and Tobago which operates under the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF). It was the first karate organization formed in Trinidad and in expanse, the whole Caribbean and was founded by brothers David and Michael Chin Leung. It is currently headed by Dr. Dexter Shim, a 7th degree black belt and a member of the ISKF Technical Commitee. The TKA currently has several clubs on both islands and hosts two Japanese instructors anually for grading seminars.

International Competition

The TKA over the past few years has produced formidable international competitors. In 2004, Trinidad placed third overall at the ISKF Pan-American Championships in Panama and in 2005 and 2006 they placed first overall at the 6th and 7th ISKF Caribbean Championships in Antigua and Trinidad respectively.
