Wimbledon, in the district of Tararua, New Zealand is located on SH 52 and consists of a few house and a closed tavern. It is 25km from Weber and 10km from Herbertville on the coast. It got it's name at the turn of the 20th century when a traveller staying at the tavern witnessed a local shooting a cattle beast from several yards away, killing the beast with a single shot to the head. "You are good enough to go to Wimbledon". he is reported as saying. Wimbledon then being the location of the national shooting championships and not tennis as it is now. The name stuck. There is a centre court at Wimbledon and you can pay there for a few dollars donation and have your card stamped as playing centre court, Wimbledon
