Lima Senior High School, the only high school in the Lima City Schools District, was established in 1955, in Lima, Ohio. When first built, the school had a very small student population, and there was concern that it would not be able to stay open. As the other high schools in Lima were being shutdown due to decreasing population, Lima Senior's student body population increased. There are approximately 1200 students currently enrolled at Lima Senior.
Lima Senior remained in the same building for 49 years, until one year before the building's fiftieth anniversary when it was replaced. The new building was under construction for two years, and was finally finished in 2004. The new Lima Senior High School building contains three smaller schools, including the Performance Based, the Progressive Academy, and the School of Multiple Intelligences. Each school follows a different method of teaching core state of Ohio class requirements. Non-core subjects, such as music, combine students from all three schools.
Lima Senior's mascot is the Spartan. They are a member of the Greater Buckeye Conference.
