Force of Evil
Force of Evil (also called The Numbers Racket) is a 1948 film noir film about a man (Garfield) who wants to unite all of the numbers rackets under his control, but runs afoul of his brother (Gomez), who is one of the little guys.
The movie was adapted by Abraham Polonsky and Ira Wolfert from Wolfert's novel Tucker's People. It was directed by Polonsky. In order to show cinematographer George Barnes how he wanted the film to look, Polonsky gave him a book of Edward Hopper's Third Avenue paintings.
The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The black-and-white film is 78 minutes long.
