"Over Logging"

"Over Logging" will be episode 1206 (#173) of the animated series South Park.[1] It was originally broadcast on April 16, 2008. It parodies the novel The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck as well as the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Plot summary

No one in South Park has Internet access and there is no telling when, or even if, it will come back. Desperation sets in as the fear of the unknown spreads rapidly across the country. When Randy hears there still may be some Internet out in California, he packs up his family and heads west in search of a signal.[2]

Trivia

  • The traveling west is based off of The Grapes of Wrath where they travel to California looking for jobs.
  • Shelley has her first lines since More Crap, and her personality stays consistent with An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig
  • Showing the Internet is reference to the movie Independence Day, when they show the alien ship for the first time with the president.
    • When the government attempts to communicate with The Internet, the sequence of tones that are played are the same as those in Close Encounters of the Third Kind..
