The Kennywood Entertainment Company is, as of December 2007, the owner of five United States amusement parks: three in Western Pennsylvania, as well as one each in Connecticut and New Hampshire. Kennywood Entertainment Company owns Kennywood Park, Idlewild Park, Sandcastle Water Park, Lake Compounce, and most recently Story Land Park.[1] It is a company in the business "of operating clean, beautiful, family parks."[2]

History

Kennywood Entertainment Co. was effectively created when F. W. Henninger and Andrew McSwigan purchased Kennywood Park from the Monongahela Railway Company in 1906. The company has since been controlled by their two families, purchasing the four other parks in turn. On December 11, 2007, Kennywood Entertainment announced that it would be selling all five of its amusement parks to Parques Reunidos, a Madrid, Spain-based company.[3] This deal has yet to go through. There seems to be some disagreement between the hundreds of family members who own part of the company.and is a very nice place to visit and have fun with the family
