Ronaldo has Scored

http://www.acmilan.com/index.aspx... Ronaldo has scored his first goal of the 2007/2008 season in a 4-0 victory against Leece. For some reason his page is not editable so can someone please change his Ac Milan goals to... 15 appearances.. 8 goals

Templates

Anyone else agree there are way too many templates on this page? --Guinnog 12:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ronaldo move disagreement

Discussions take place Friday. (today)

He is not actually on AC Milan until he signs as expected on Monday Jan 29th 2007. Therefore he is still on the Real Madrid side. can someone please change this in the write up?

Current negotiations have fallen through. Kal 15:51, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, we don't need speculation/rumors/news updates on this page - that's what newspapers are for. We'll talk about transfers when they happen and when the pen goes on paper. Ytny 16:06, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This wasn't a rumor again, here was the first line, "Discussions take place Friday." I suspect you suffer from the inability to read sentences correctly. Kal 19:36, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Before you accuse others of not reading properly, you should see that I wrote "we don't need speculation/rumors/news updates". Anyway, my point was that ongoing discussions of potential transfers don't belong in encycopedia articles. When a transfer actually happens, great, make the edit. But negotiations over a transfer that may or may not happen aren't important enough in the long run. Ytny 20:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox vandalism

Someone had vandalized the infobox stats on October 12 [1]. Took two weeks before someone (me, me ,me!) corrected this edit. Why include stats when no one bothers to verify them? InfoboxEditor 19:42, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not always easy to find the stats. Can you recommend a good resource or, even better, add the link to the External links section?  sʟυмɢυм • т  c  21:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Someone had referenced footballdatabase.com before, which I think is a reliable source for league goals although not for international ones. Another site I find accurate for league and European goals is sports.yahoo.com [2]. InfoboxEditor 02:48, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry!

Someone should correct Ronaldo's goals for Real Madrid. He scored 82 goals for us in 127 games and not 69.

02/03 - 23/31 03/04 - 24/32 04/05 - 21/34 05/06 - 14/23 06/07 - 1/7

That's 82/127

Somebody forgot to add 2005/2006 to the mix I guess.

Son

I do not know anything about this but I saw that his son's name is Ronald. I was curious whether it is actually Ronald or if that is just a typo and it is Ronaldo (jr.) Again, I am probably wrong but I was just curious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Que? (talkcontribs) 01:42, November 13, 2006 (UTC)

Infobox, past clubs

Why does eveyone put the flags of the club's home country next to the name? It screws up the team lining up the the appropriate stats. I think someone should remove the flags as it would look much more appealing and it would be easier for others to read. If this is agreed upon, why not remove the other flags for the other players? hmm? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 216.26.202.237 (talk) 21:17, 18 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Can somebody fix his stats for Real Madrid??? He scored 83 goals for them and not 69. Last time I checked, 23/31, 24/32, 21/34, 14/23 and 1/7 converts into 83/127 and not 69/98 or whatever you have there...

Do you guys only count league goals? Ronaldo has scored over 100 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions. I remember his 100th goal being scored off a volley from a set piece assisted by Zidane in the 05-06 season. Here is all 100 goals: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zuHa-LMdeTg Mo altarhuni 02:23, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Mo Altarhuni[reply]

Playing for both Inter and A.C. Milan

I edited the page to reflect that Ronaldo is now one of the few people to have played for both Inter and AC Milan and to my knowledge, he's the only person to have scored for both sides in the derby - i trawled through countless others and haven't found anyone who managed to do it for both. But I guess I can't really source that so if you deem that to be inconclusive, please change that. I also can't seem to be able to link the "Milan derby" link to the actual Milan derby article which comes up if you type in "wiki milan derby" in the address bar. vadimski 3:49, 13 March 2007

Several players have, so it should be changed, for example Clarence Seedorf has scored for both teams. Also, quite a lot of players have played for both teams. So that should be changed from "Ronaldo is now one of the few people to have played for both Inter and AC Milan", to something like "Ronaldo has now joined the small group of names to have played for both Milanese teams", which suggests more than just a few players.

  • Are you sure that Seedorf scored for both teams in the Milan derby? I know countless players who scored for both sides but I'm pretty sure that Ronaldo is the only one to have scored in the actual derby game. vadimski 6:40, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5roTWDCRU3U ... now please change it. And you need to state that quite a lot of players have played ofr both teams. I can think of about ten off the top of my head, and there's bound to be way more than I think of...

Disambiguation (Part 2)

All, I think we need to give some serious thought (again) to making the Ronaldo page a disambiguation page. (By that I mean when you do a search for Ronaldo it goes straight to the disambiguation page rather than the 'Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima' page).

Although I would agree that he is the most famous of the Ronaldos that still doesn't mean that he is the only one which is what a Ronaldo search on Wikipedia suggests. The other Ronaldos are also very famous in their own right (Cristiano Ronaldo has had an incredible season this year and is hotly tipped to be voted European player of the year)

If you asked anyone in Europe (or indeed the rest of the world) what they thought of Ronaldo, I'm sure most of them would ask you 'Which one?'

I thought the whole point of Wikipedia was that it constantly changes to reflect the environment. But like I said, even if we agree that Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima is the most famous Ronaldo that still doesn't mean he is the only one.

I'll give you an example from Wikipedia itself. I'm sure we'd all agree that Nike Inc (the shoe and apparel manufacturer) is by far the most famous 'Nike'. However a Wikipedia search on Nike takes you straight through to the disambiguation page. I'm sure I can find many more examples if I searched for them. Come on guys, lets get this changed. (Dinosv 11:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC))[reply]

I disagree. Milan's Ronaldo is simply known as Ronaldo whearas Man United Ronaldo is Cristiano Ronaldo. Niall123 11:15, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to making the Ronaldo page a disambiguation page. Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt has one name, Ronaldo 7.Page Up 21:28, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm neutral on this issue but agree that the other Ronaldo, and for that matter "the little Rondaldo" (Ronaldinho) are too famous to simply dismiss the discussion. I propose we nominate this article at AfD citing this discussion. As both sides of the argument clearly seem to believe they're in the right, presumably neither side will mind putting their case forward formally? 82.13.151.148 19:28, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No need for this. Ronaldo is simply known as Ronaldo, where as Manchester United's Ronaldo is commonly known as Cristiano Ronaldo Mo altarhuni 19:13, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is not entirely true. The Portugesse Ronaldo is rarely refered to as Cristiano Ronaldo. He is much more commonly known as Ronaldo, and is becoming more famous every day. I fail to see how there can not be a disambiguation page. Codu (t)(c) •  10:56, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs a section devoted to his playing style and one on his injury history. I'd start one if I was more eloquent in english :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.164.151.218 (talkcontribs) 11:51, May 5, 2007 (UTC)

FYI: Recent vandalism/koder's revert comment.

I accidentally hit "enter" while I was typing my revert comment on 6/01/2007. The full version should read "Reverted to Smokizzy's version due to lots of vandalism and bad reverts." I reverted a bunch of changes done by some anonymous users (all of which was vandalism). If I removed anything you think was constructive, just replace it and give me a quick smack :P Cheers. Wrong Date of Birth

Ronaldo's date of birth is wrong, it's 22 September, not 18. You can verify on the acmilan homepage. I can't edit it myself because the page is protected. Showb1zz 00:44, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Both es and pt interwiki have it as 22nd. Alexf(t/c) 01:18, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In this book, the author states the Ronaldo was actually born on the 18th, although because his family didn't have enough money to register him, they had to wait 4 days to save up the money to pay the registration fee, and to avoid a late penalty to registering Ronaldo (in Brazil, there's a fine if you don't register your new-born on time), they just said he was born on the 22nd.

IP user above is correct. His actual date of birth is the 18th. His apparently "legal" date of birth is on the 22nd. Now we must decide which to use. I am a proponent of using the ACTUAL date of birth (the 18th) as it is a true and accurate reflection of the facts. In the biography paragraph it states why there is a discrepency, which I think is sufficient. My theory is this, Ronaldo was not born on the 22nd, no matter what his birth certificate says, he entered the world on the 18th. Batman2005 16:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Info

"A year after the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he severely injured his right knee and was out of the game for several months. During his first comeback in 2000, he played only seven minutes during a league game against Lazio before injuring his knee for a second time." Infact, it was the coppa italia final (leg 1) played out on April 12th, 2000. A more precise date for the first injury is also November 1999. Mo altarhuni 02:19, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Goal Count

According to the official Brazilian Football Federation webpage [[3]], Ronaldo has a game (goal) count of 112(75). Romario's page uses the same reference site, why the inconsistency?

This is because Ronaldo has scored 67 goals for the National team , and 6 goals for the Olympic Team. Mo altarhuni (talk) 02:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ronaldo has an offical website called: http://ronaldo.fobazo.com also to be found via http://www.ronaldo.com

Last international appearance

Ive had to change this many times as someone keeps editing it. Ronaldo has not played for Brazil since 2006, therefore the International years stays as ended at 2006. Whether he has announced his retirement or not is irrelevant for these articles. If/when he plays for Brazil again, then it can be changed, not before. --Mozman (talk) 10:37, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Translation error

The term "Golden Shoe" should be "Golden Boot." It is correct at the bottom of the page where Ronaldo's various honors are listed, but in the text under the portion of the professional career, the erroneous translation appears.Wikiargy (talk) 16:19, 17 February 2008 (UTC)wikiargy[reply]

Mathematical Error

There is a mathematical error at this line: "He is eleven goals away from becoming Brazil's all-time top-scorer. Ronaldo is currently the fourth highest all-time goalscorer of the Brazil national football team, with 62 goals. He trails third place Zico, 66, second place Romario, 71, and first place Pelé, 77." Shouldn´t it be "he is 16 goals away from becoming..." ? Or is Pelés goal count wrong? Because 62+11 = 73. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.178.220.207 (talk) 17:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've edited Ronaldo's Honours to include the FIFA Club World Cup, which Milan won in 2007. Although Ronaldo didn't play during the tournament, he was appart of the squad which took part in it. On A.C Milan's official site, it notes that Ronaldo has won the tournament also. If I'm wrong please let me know, as these details are very hard to define as conclusive. Milan also won the 2007 UEFA SuperCup; but was Ronaldo on that squad? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eoinfoley (talkcontribs) 17:50, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's naming conventions.
  • Oppose. He is referred to by one name; no one else on the dab page is. The naming here does not conflict with other people with the first name "Ronaldo" - the only articles it could conflict with would be Ronaldo (name) or an article on someone else known by the same single name. Unfortunately, Ronaldo (name) is not an article about the name; it might be more accurately titled List of people with the first name Ronaldo, and would then probably be a candidate for deletion. Also note that some people who have expressed opinions have done so only below. Dekimasuよ! 05:25, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Any additional comments:

Can we agree that Ronaldo is a name used by many people, including many famous footballers. (When I hear the name Ronaldo, I think of the footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.)

The Ronaldo article should list the various Ronaldos instead of assuming that people will only be interested in one of them. I would suggest a good name for this article would be Ronaldo de Lima.

I don't think that the link at the top of the page to Ronaldo (disambiguation) (which in turn redirects to the Ronaldo (name) page) is enough. Other names shared by many famous people are all disambiguation sites, as this one should be. - Mjb1981 (talk) 23:24, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You should have taken the silence as a no rather than a sure, go ahead. - Dudesleeper / Talk 13:00, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No the name should'nt be changed to Ronaldo de lima. First of all Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't have become so well known and so popular so quick if their wasn't already an extremely well known player simply known as 'RONALDO'. Everybody knows Ronaldo for Ronaldo you never hear commentators in games say Ronaldo De Lima has scored! It's simply Ronaldo and has been for a very long time. IF you change Ronaldo's article to Ronaldo De Lima not many people will recognise who the player is. It should stay as Ronaldo for the original player, at least untill he retires. Just about everybody knows Cristiano Ronaldo's FIRST and LAST name. - Belija91 (talk) 13:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Everyone who follows the English premiership knows Ronaldo to be Cristiano Ronaldo, nobody ever says Cristiano Ronaldo has scored, it is always just Ronaldo, just like Ronaldo de lima. People looking for Cristiano Ronaldo will usually search for just Ronaldo, knowing the first name is not the same as knowing how to spell it. It isn't as if Cristiano Ronaldo is a mundane player - he is considered by most to be the best player in the English Premiership.

All other articles has the person's full name, why is Ronaldo different? I don't mind what it is changed to, but leaving it as just Ronaldo when there are others of similar fame is favouritism. I'm not saying that Cristiano Ronaldo should be just Ronaldo, but the Ronaldo page should treat each player equally. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mjb1981 (talkcontribs) 00:36, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Ronaldo De Lima is commonly known as Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo is commonly known as Cristiano Ronaldo. There is already a dab page in place which does its job just fine. PC78 (talk) 16:28, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is not true. Everyone refers to Cristiano Ronaldo as Ronaldo.Mjb1981 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:33, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Erm, no they don't. Who is "everyone", and where is your evidence? PC78 (talk) 17:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying no-one knows his first name, but turn on the TV, or radio, and you'll hear him called Ronaldo, just Ronaldo. Mjb1981 (talk) 17:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If it's a news segment, he'll be mentioned as Cristiano Ronaldo first, then Ronaldo from that point on, just like any other player. - Dudesleeper / Talk 17:39, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But most people looking for the Wikipedia article would just type in Ronaldo, when he is discussed he is usually called Ronaldo, just as this Ronaldo is. Mjb1981 (talk) 16:06, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's other people's laziness then. If they're football fans, they'll know typing in Ronaldo in a search will bring up the Brazilian. - Dudesleeper / Talk 17:10, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that may be true, but for someone who only knows about the English Premiership, or someone who doesn't know that much about football, they may not know that, and may not know Cristiano Ronaldo's first name. As an encyclopaedia, Wikipedia should give equal status to the two players and give unknowledgeable and lazy people just as much access as those who are knowledgeable. Mjb1981 (talk) 09:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If a move is made, I think that the standard for Latin names would indicate Ronaldo Nazário, as I think that Nazário would be his father's last name and Lima his mother's. ENeville (talk) 06:29, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
