University of Houston Portal

I've mostly finished creating a University of Houston portal. Check it out here if you're interested. I've linked to the Houston portal as a related portal as well. Brianreading (talk) 05:46, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

wausau list of companies

we've worked together before, me under the previous user Urban909 and need your help with an issue with user Jmlk17 who keeps erasing a page List of companies in Wausau, Wisconsin [1]. this user has not responded to my attempts for discussion and is actually abusing his privileges as an administrator. we have a similar page under houston's page. i've always respected your input and level headed judgment so i would really appreciate your help. cheers! IAH777 —Preceding comment was added at 13:52, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no worries! the thing is, i did all of the suggestions that you gave and it was still erased. this editor has a serious "god mode" issue. not attacking, but when everything is done right and its gone in less than an hour it really gets frustrating to say the least. perhaps i should come back as Urban909? thats the profile i did most of my editing on. thanks again. IAH777 —Preceding comment was added at 13:28, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

edit: i have resumed as Urban909. its been awhile since i was under that profile. decided to come back, but wanted a clean start. (hence IAH777) but 90 percent of my edits have been under Urban909. anyways, i know we've worked together well in the past, (although its been a year or so; maybe i need to integrate myself back into the editing group) especially concerning issues/edits with houston.

Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County

i was wondering if you could help resolve an issue on this page [2]. XxTrillvillexX9 seems to not get the disputed tag, will not discuss and keeps reverting back. i am trying to stop some mundane edit war and would appreciate you and/or other editors that have worked on various houston project pages help. cheers! University of Houston Wikiproject

I'm considering proposing a new Wikiproject for the University of Houston. I'm looking to see if other Wikipedians would be interested in being involved in such a project. Are you? Thanks for your response! Brianreading 06:30, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'd be interested. Let me know if I can help. Thanks, Postoak 00:51, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Steven Klawinsky

I need your assistance in listing Steven Klawinsky for deletion. I have never nominated an article for deletion before so the process is unfamiliar to me. The article does not have any sources to support claims and I have tried to search around the Internet but could not find anything on this person. Additionally, please watch that page as the user will remove all tags I have placed. Thanks! —RJN 17:20, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not responding earlier. The article did not assert notability...living in River Oaks and having a love child doesn't do it. I couldn't find any sources for verification either. I requested a speedy. Postoak 06:54, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joanna Shields

I noticed your note on the speedy deletion of Joanna Shields. Maybe instead of a delete you could implement a redirect to Bebo. She is in the news frequently, so maybe a separate article would suffice as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jozecuervo (talkcontribs) 23:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted several months ago. Postoak 23:27, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Happy Thanksgiving

Hi RJN, I just wanted to wish you a happy Thanksgiving (I know, a little late) to one of the Houston old-faithfuls. :) Best wishes for the upcoming holiday season! Postoak (talk) 00:31, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Postoak and thanks for the note! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Day as well. By the way, you can call me Richard if you'd like. —RJN (talk) 02:12, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TMC Picture

Could you possible delete the picture? XxTrillvillexX9 (talk) 22:15, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If there is a photo to be deleted, please check if it falls under one of the "speedy delete" candidates here. If it does, you may tag the photo as such, and an administrator will take care of it. Postoak at the moment is not an admin, or as we sometimes call a "sysop", but I have a feeling that a request for adminship can change that if he wants... ;-) JungleCat Shiny!/Oohhh! 23:03, 25 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin

Hi. I just wondered if you'd consider letting me nominate you for adminship, as you seem experienced enough. Thanks. Epbr123 10:16, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your consideration, Epbr123. I have too many things going on right now and would not be able to spend much time here. Maybe next spring after I finish a few projects at work. Thanks again, Postoak (talk) 06:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sister cities houston

Hi, I recently added a piece of information in regards to Houston's Sister Cities. I was curious as to a specific rule in wikipedia that discounts why a subarticle such as houston sister cities not be integrated with the main article of the relevant city? Just about every major city in the world listed on wikipedia has a list of their sister cities within the article. A city as large and influential as Houston should promtly have it displayed in its flagship article. Please reply on my talk page. Thanks! Kcuello (talk) 22:19, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Part of the work to get the article to featured article status was to move all embedded lists (including Sister cities of Houston} to prose or to subarticles. If you notice, we don't have any lists in the article. Many city articles have the sister cities list within the article and many do not, but I agree with you that that this really should be part of the main article. I will re-introduce your edits. Thanks, Postoak (talk) 20:48, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yay! Gwen Gale (talk) 16:10, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP Texas

I noticed that you are part of WP Texas in addition to Houston. I have been tagging and assessing on TX, but also rooting out a few stray Houston articles that haven't been WPHouston tagged before. Is there anyone running WP TX? Maybe you? Also, I created a new "Category: Restaurants in Houston, Texas" (mostly filled with junk article stubs, but I am still rooting out an odd one here and there ) modeled after other major cities' restaurant cat.s. I don't think I am doing anything to cause the hinges to come off any of these projects, since I've been doing similar tasks on other projects (with hardly anyone killed or maimed). Just wanted give someone on these projects a heads up. Jacksinterweb (talk) 04:15, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help with WP:HOU tagging. I'm not sure if there is a WP:Texas coordinator, I spend most of my time with WikiProject Houston. The new cats are fine...no death or destruction! Thanks, Postoak (talk) 19:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Heritageplaza.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Heritageplaza.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:00, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

South Park, Houston

I was looking over the South Park article and was wondering why the POV tag? I know the article can be improved and want to help, but I couldn't see any basis for the POV. Moheroy (talk) 03:04, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The tag apparently was added last year [3] during an earlier version of the article. I suppose the user who added the tag thought the article contained POV edits at the time. Postoak (talk) 03:42, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was confused and thought you had added the tag, I removed it for now. Thanks! Moheroy (talk) 08:36, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames of H-Town

Hey. I am kinda exited about the prospect of having a featured list to OUR credit. Although I am philosophically opposed to bare lists on Wikipedia, I am about as flexible as can be. Dealing with concensus can do that do a person. I am certainly not the last word on any subject. The article is as much to your credit as it is to mine, so I certainly did not seriously mean to challenge your assessment. I'm waiting to see what happens more for the feedback than the status. BTW, happy New Year. Cheers. --Evb-wiki (talk) 04:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested in how this turns out also. So far, no responses on the nomination page. Thanks and happy New Year to you also. Postoak (talk) 04:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:TranquilityPark.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:TranquilityPark.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 10:59, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chuck Rosenthal

I have actually found that Chuck Rosenthal's had an article, but in light of what is going on, I figured I'd add a bit to the page. I haven't found another article to link him to, if there is, I haven't been able to find it. any suggestions?--Hourick (talk) 15:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, looks like everything is already covered. Perhaps email or sexual misconduct, but that might be considered POV...lol. Good luck with the article. Postoak (talk) 04:40, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Houston portal

I'd love to help out a bit, especially since I haven't really done much in relation to the project yet, other than tag some articles and bring USS Texas (BB-35) to GA. What parts of running the portal could you use some help with? -MBK004 04:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What would be helpful is any assistance with content selection for the remainder of the year, especially the news and "Did you know" section. The stubs for each month are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Houston/Portal development. Actually, what I would really like to do is implement rotated content similar to Portal:Texas but have not had a chance to get to it. Maybe one of these days :) Postoak (talk) 21:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seems simple enough (Famous last words?). I'll probably be able to start helping in time for the March selections. I've got some things on my plate currently that will keep me from working on the February selections. -MBK004 00:32, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great, thanks for your help. Postoak (talk) 08:25, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Portal Response

The portal work is impressive and understand WHY you need help, unfortunately I don't think I would be much help since my plate has gotten rather full over the past few months. Regards.--Hourick (talk) 05:43, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks anyway. Postoak (talk) 21:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, Didn't know if it was on your watchlist, but this article was deleted without an AFD notification. I have sent an inquiry to Kingboyk and I'm awaiting his response. Meanwhile, is there anything that can be done until a proper debate is finished? I thought we had already resolved this? Regards.--Hourick (talk) 04:07, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like it was tagged for speedy deletion. Did you create the article? Usually the person nominating the article will notify the creator and let them know it is about to be deleted. Postoak (talk) 04:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I created the article and got no notice. I had updated it earlier this afternoon and it was when I was updating the Quannel article is when I noticed it. --Hourick (talk) 04:20, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking to the admin who deleted the article is the best plan, if that doesn't help, then Wikipedia:Deletion review. I'm surprised this article was not considered notable, it made national news. If it was sourced (and I'm sure it was) then it should not have been deleted, in my opinion. [4]. Postoak (talk) 04:25, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
excellent, I was wondering if i was heading down the right path. As active as he was today, I should definitely get a response before the morning. Thanks for the additional info. BTW: I'm also looking into the Deletion of the 100 club article deletion as well. but that may be a lost cause. --Hourick (talk) 04:34, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

:::::Well, he hasn't responded, so I'm going to ask for a review of this article. Since secret is on a Wikibreak, I'll proceed with a deletion review as well.--Hourick (talk) 15:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC) Never mind, it was restored. I guess I can pursue the 100 Club (non profit) review or do you have any info in the deletion reason/debate? Thanks anyway.Strike-through text[reply]

RfA thank-spam

Postoak, I wish to tender my sincere thanks for your support in my successful request for adminship, which ended with 37 supports, 2 opposes, and 2 neutral. The results of the RfA are extremely bittersweet because of the recent departure of my nominator, Rudget. Hopefully I can live up to his and your expectations. I would especially like to thank Epbr123 and TomStar81 for mentioning that they were preparing to offer me a nomination. The past week has been one of the most stressful weeks in my life, and I appreciate your vote of confidence in me. If you ever need anything, just get in touch. -MBK004 21:08, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a thank you note

Thanks for participating in my RfA!
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been outstanding, thanks again. Cheers! Rollback

You have been granted with the rollback permission on the basis of your recent effort on dealing with vandalism. The rollback is a revert tool which can lessens the strains that normal javascripts such as twinkle put on the Wikipedia servers. You will find that you will revert faster through the rollback than through the normal reversion tools such as javascripts and the undo feature, which means that you could save time especially when reverting very large articles such as the George W. Bush page. To use it, simply click the [rollback] (which should appear unbloded if you have twinkle installed) link on the lastest diff page which should appear beside the link to the user's contributions. The rollback link will also appear on the history page beside the edit summary of the lastest edit. For more information, you may refer to this page. An imposition

It is with regret that I must inform you that I will be unable to fulfill my previous pledge to help you with the Houston Portal due to school commitments which will reduce my available time to be here on wikipedia for at least two months. I realize this is an imposition, but unfortunately my schooling must come first. I'm sure you understand. -MBK004 02:36, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

why are you deleting the entirely accurate description of carolyn farb recieving the 'worstof houston' award? a friend of hers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.243.45.243 (talk) 23:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The awards are not notable, POV and sensationalism [5]. Apparently the Free Press Houston also considers the awards pure bull since "awards below are arbitrarily based upon hyperbole, rumors, bull-scheizzer, and sometimes facts." [6] Postoak (talk) 01:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The awards are indeed notable when a publication with a readership of 100,000 makes that distinction. The Free Press does not consider the awards pure bull just feels it important to let folks know that they are purely opinion just as the other accolades you so readily mention. I am sure you are a friend of hers and your editing on her behalf both violates any sense of jounalistic standards and wikipedia protocol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.194.91.128 (talk) 21:15, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PostOak, How do you propose this be resolved whereas this award could be notated in a fair and concise way? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sansabelt (talkcontribs) 01:53, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion moved. Please discuss at Talk:Carolyn Farb and not here. Postoak (talk) 02:05, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've left a blurb about the BLP guidelines and notability on the talk page of the article and warned the editor about 3RR. If another revert is made, let me know, because I consider the IP and the editor the same and will block. Hope that is enough. -MBK004

Ima Hogg

Just a head's up, if you haven't noticed, Ima Hogg has been worked on extensively lately by a cadre of editors and is about to head to FAC so it can be on the Main Page on April Fools Day. Since we've tagged the article as B-Class for WP:Houston, you might want to be involved/observe. I've kind of become a black sheep for suggesting an infobox on the article (see the talk page). -MBK004 17:56, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, Sandy has played me up as an "infobox lover", although I am involved in an infobox conversion drive with the other projects I'm active with. I don't really care either way, just was making a suggestion, though, and since content production and refinement isn't my specialty, I've steered away from it. -MBK004 02:01, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I let that go because Sandy's been under a bunch of stress lately (if you've ever followed ArbCom proceedings, she was pulled into one a few months ago). -MBK004 02:19, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Houston

Thank you! Actually, the Houston list was going to be my next FL-project after List of tallest buildings in Pittsburgh (I started working on the Houston list awhile back, but gave up due to the huge amount of reldinked articles). Basically, there are a few editors at WP:FLC who insist that in order for a building list to meet the FL-criteria, every building must have an article. I have tried to change the FL criteria to exclude the requirement of creating articles for non-notable buildings, but then faced the problem of clearly determining what makes a skyscraper notable. As of now, it looks like the only way to get the article to featured status would be to create articles for all 29 redlinked buildings... But I would certainly be willing to work at it, and User:Alaskan assassin has been great for creating articles for List of tallest buildings in Charlotte, List of tallest buildings in Minneapolis and List of tallest buildings in Pittsburgh, so he/she may be willing to work at creating articles for list as well. What do you think? Cheers, Rai-me 22:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great news! Thanks in large part to Alaskan assassin's work at creating article for all of the buildings, List of tallest buildings in Houston is now a featured list candidate. I have been doing last minute work on it for the past few hours (mostly lead expansion), and have just nominated it. Hopefully there will be another Texas tallest building list FL in 10 days time! Thank you for all of your hard work on this list. Cheers, Raime 03:57, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I was in New York; I didn't start contributing to the list again until yesterday! Yes, that is intentional; it is just the method for listing tied buildings. Just a question - is Pennzoil Place two towers? SkyscraperPage lists it as one building, but Emporis lists it as two. It is hard to tell from the photo. But if it is actually two buildings, then it should have two entries in the list. Cheers, Raime 05:19, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

One Park place Response....

As far as I know, we never had one. But I'm STILL finding Houston articles. I got several pictures of the current construction if you want to look at them.
