"Violet Hill" is the first single to be released from Coldplay's fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.

It will receive its first radio play on April 29, 2008. It is purported to be released for download on May 5, 2008. The music video was filmed in Sicily, Italy.

A 7" vinyl of the single with the B-side "A Spell A Rebel Yell" will be included free in the May 7th issue of NME.

On 27 April, Coldplay announced that Violet Hill is set to be released from Coldplay.com on Tuesday 29 April for free. It will be downloadable from the site for one week.
