Daniel Sean "Danny" Guthrie (born April 18 1987 in Shrewsbury) grew up in Telford, is a young central midfielder with Bolton Wanderers. He signed for Liverpool as a 15 year old after being released by Manchester United.

His displays in Liverpool's Academy side earned him a call-up to the England schoolboy side. As a regular member of the reserve squad he has moved to Melwood to join training with the senior team. He was a regular captain of the reserve squad.

Early Days

Daniel attended Thomas Telford School, in Shropshire, from the age 11 till he was 16. He was a member of a very successful football squad at his school, winning many County Cups and reaching the semi-finals in the English School's National Football Tournament. Daniel then left Shropshire to live on Merseyside at the age of 16 to further his footballing career.

Liverpool F.C.

His first appearance with the senior team came in the summer 2006 pre-season friendly at Wrexham, where he played as a left midfielder. He made his competitive first team debut after being named on the bench in a League Cup tie against Reading on 25 October 2006, coming on as a 62nd minute substitute for Momo Sissoko. A month later he made his league debut, again as a substitute, against Portsmouth. He started his first match for Liverpool in the European Champions League against Galatasaray on 5 December 2006. Danny's most recent appearance came in the 2-1 defeat at St James' Park against Newcastle on Saturday 10 February 2007.

Southampton F.C. (Loan 2007)

On March 2 2007 Guthrie signed for Southampton on an emergency loan deal until the end of the month[1][2] which was subsequently extended to the end of the season.

Bolton Wanderers (Loan 2007-2008)

He has spent the 2007-08 season with Bolton Wanderers, who at the start of the season were managed by former Liverpool player and coach Sammy Lee[3]. Sammy Lee left the club by mutual consent in October, and there was speculation that Guthrie would not stay at Bolton for the rest of his loan spell. However, Gary Megson has shown faith in Guthrie since he took over and he has played intermittently. He scored on his Bolton début against Fulham in the Carling Cup. He was also in the starting XI for the Bolton team that drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena during the UEFA Cup. Megson further showed faith in the Liverpool lad by starting him in the line up in Megson's second league match, a victory at home to Manchester United.

It is reported that Many Bolton Wanderers supporters hope that he will prolong his stay with them beyond his initial year long loan, as he has proved to be a fan favourite. [citation needed]
