Desmond Lamont "Desi" Relaford (born September 16, 1973 in Valdosta, Georgia) is an American professional baseball infielder who is currently in the Texas Rangers organization. He has previously played for the Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and the Philadelphia Phillies. He is reliable with the ability to play several positions on the baseball field.
It was announced that Relaford signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on February 14, 2007. He competed with Jerry Hairston Jr., Drew Meyer and Joaquin Arias for a spot as utility infielder during spring training[1], but wound up starting the season in the minors. In early July, Relaford was called up to the Rangers after regular second baseman Ian Kinsler was placed on the disabled list after suffering a stress fracture. [2]
Desi Relaford pitched one inning for the New York Mets. He recorded a perfect inning with one strikeout and threw over 90 mph.
He currently has a home in Jacksonville, Florida where his children play T-Ball at Ft. Caroline Athletic Association (FCAA)
Relaford has also helped Ryan Freel of the Cincinnati Reds with a 2-Day winter baseball camp
