The Short Strand is an area in eastern inner-city Belfast, in Northern Ireland. It is a nationalist (Catholic) enclave, with a population of around 3,000 within a much larger unionist area. The district is surrounded by unionist areas to the north, east and south, and to the west is the River Lagan.

Through The Troubles it was nutorious for stonings and attacks against cars and buses on the Albertbridge Road, coming from Protestant Cregagh and Templemore.

There is currently a peace wall on it's northern edge, blocking Loyalist Cluan Place and Nationalist Madrid Street, this was also nutorious for violence.

Mountpottinger Street transverses it, there is a police barracks with huge fortifications. Many Protestants avoid the area due to fear of attack, although Bus service Metro 5A runs through Mountpottinger en-route to Braniel, home of Loyalist bomber Michael Stone who commited the 1988 Milltown Massacre.
